LeBron James SF CLE 3 weeks ago

James signed a two-year deal with the Cavaliers worth $47 million with a player option in the second year, Brian Windhorst of ESPN reports.

This was expected from James, as he will play out this year and then cash in after next year once the salary cap increases for the 2016-17 season. He will look to once again lead Cleveland back to the NBA Finals and hope that the team can stay healthy and have a different result next time around.

James will opt out of his contract and become a free agent, Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports reports.

James is reportedly expected to stay with Cleveland despite opting out of his contract for the 2015-16 season, but he intends to wait and see what the Cavaliers do during the first few weeks of the free agency period in July. James nearly single-handedly led the team to the NBA finals during the 2014-15 season, so it's understandable he's doing this to put some pressure on the Cavaliers' organization. Despite the fact that he's fully expected to return to Cleveland, this is still obviously a situation to watch, as James remains one of the best fantasy players in the league.

James led both teams in the NBA Finals in averages of points (35.8), rebounds (13.3), and assists (8.8), but wasn't able to haul his team to a championship against the deeper Warriors. During the regular season, he averaged 25.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 7.4 assists in 36.1 minutes in 69 games.

James is 12 years into his career and we may have seen the peak. He showed in the Finals that he is still an incredible player, but his game is different than it was in his early years as a Cavalier. His minutes were a career low and he may need to play even fewer in 2015-16, particularly after five straight trips to the Finals. James can opt out of his contract, but it would be a major surprise to see him leave Cleveland again. He should be an upper first round pick again next year.

James barely missed his second straight triple-double in Tuesday's 105-97 Game 6 loss, recording 32 points (13-33 FG, 2-10 3Pt, 4-8 FT), 18 rebounds, nine assists, two steals, and six turnovers in 47 minutes.

James missed 118 shot in the NBA Finals, the same number of shots made by the rest of his teammates. Even though he missed at least 15 shots in every contest, James exceeded 5,000 points in his playoff career. He finished second in NBA Finals MVP voting and averaged 35.8 points, 13.3 rebounds, 8.8 assists, 1.3 steals, 0.5 blocks, and 2.2 three-pointers in 45.8 minutes per game.

James notched his sixth career NBA Finals triple-double, supplying 40 points (15-34 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 7-9 FT), 14 rebounds, 11 assists, and one steal in 45 minutes in Sunday's Game 5 104-91 loss.

James missed at least 15 field goals for the fifth straight game and is shooting 40 percent from the field during the NBA Finals. Nevertheless, he's averaging 36.6 points, 12.4 rebounds, 8.8 assists, 1.2 steals, 0.6 blocks, and 2.2 three-pointers in 45.6 minutes per game.

James played through a gash in the back of his cranium and provided 20 points (7-22 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 5-10 FT), 12 rebounds, and eight assists in 41 minutes in the Game 4 loss on Thursday.

James theatrically careened into a first-row camera after the Warriors' Andrew Bogut contested a layup attempt in the second quarter. He remains tied with Jason Kidd for sixth most steals in NBA postseason history.

James admitted Thursday that he experienced cramping following Game 3 and required an IV after the game, Chris Haynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

James, who scored 40 points in a game-high 46 minutes, has taken on an extreme workload for the shorthanded Cavaliers in this Finals series, so it's no surprise that he was physically exhausted following Tuesday's win. The four-time MVP is not expected to be limited in Thursday's Game 4, and he figures to again play nearly the entire game, as the Cavaliers have virtually no offensive playmakers when he's not on the court.

James almost registered a second straight triple-double in the NBA Finals and finished with 40 points (14-34 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 10-12 FT), 12 rebounds, eight assists, four steals, and two blocks in 46 minutes on Tuesday in the Cavaliers' Game 3 victory.

Thus far, James is averaging 41.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 8.3 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks in 47.4 minutes per game. While he's only shooting 40 percent from the floor, a massive drop-off from his 57 percent mark during the 2014 NBA Finals, his point total through three games set an NBA Finals record. As long as the Warriors continue to single cover James, he'll continue to post ridiculous numbers.

James finished with 39 points (11-34 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 14-18 FT), 16 rebounds, 11 assists, one steal, and one block in 50 minutes during the Game 2 overtime win on Sunday.

James missed 17 of his final 21 attempts, all coming after halftime. He still managed to lead the Cavaliers in points, rebounds, assists, and blocks while recording his 13th career playoff triple-double.

James accumulated 44 points (18-38 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 6-10 FT), eight rebounds, and six assists in 46 minutes during Thursday's overtime Game 1 loss to the Warriors.

James' postseason struggles from the field persisted in Game 1 of the Finals and may not improve going against the number one defense in the league. He'll continue to get his as long as the Warriors abstain from double-teaming and Kyrie Irving (knee) remains hobbled.
