Jayson Nix went 2-for-3 with a double Friday in a loss to the Athletics.

It was Nix's first multi-hit game since April 25. The 30-year-old has received regular playing time at third base with Kevin Youkilis (back) on the shelf, but things could change now that Chris Nelson is in the fold.

Jayson Nix went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer in Sunday's win over the Tigers.

The longball came in the second inning off of Justin Verlander, and he nearly took him deep again in a later at-bat, but the ball went just foul. Nix has been thrust into shortstop duty with both Derek Jeter and Eduardo Nunez on the shelf and will likely be in the lineup for the next couple days.

Yankees purchased the contract of INF Jayson Nix from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Nix was removed from the 40-man roster during the offseason, but he has successfully secured a spot on the Opening Day roster. We should see him start at third base against left-handed pitching, including Opening Day against Jon Lester and the Red Sox. However, his fantasy impact will likely be minimal.

Yankees sent INF Jayson Nix outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Nix cleared waivers after being designated for assignment last week. Nix, 30, batted .243/.306/.384 with four homers and a .690 OPS in 74 games with the Yankees this past season and figures to compete for a backup infielder job in the spring.

Yankees designated INF Jayson Nix for assignment.

The two sides agreed to a contract earlier in the day to avoid arbitration. Provided he accepts the assignment to Triple-A, he'll provide organizational depth and compete for a reserve infielder job during the spring.

Yankees and INF Jayson Nix avoided arbitration by agreeing to a contract.

No word yet on the exact terms, but it doesn't figure to be for much, as Nix was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter. The 30-year-old batted .243/.306/.384 with four homers and a .690 OPS in 74 games with the Bombers this past season and will likely function as a backup infielder again next season.
