Montero is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Manager Kirk Gibson will cut back on the left-handed bats in his lineup with the incomparable Clayton Kershaw on the mound for the Dodgers. As a result, Montero, along with Jake Lamb and David Peralta, will all head to the bench.

Montero parked his 13th home run of the season on Friday against the Padres, as he went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.

You don't get dominant numbers from Montero, but you do get consistency across the board. Montero (.260/.345/.410) gets on base at a nice rate for a catcher, even with his batting average hanging around the .250 mark most of the season.

Montero is out of the lineup Thursday against the Nationals.

Tuffy Gosewisch will step in behind the plate to catch Wade Miley as Montero sits after five straight starts. Manager Kirk Gibson recently acknowledged that Montero will receive more frequent days off over the final weeks of the season, so he may not see a stretch of five straight starts again the rest of the way.

Montero is out of the Diamondbacks' lineup Friday against the Marlins.

Manager Kirk Gibson said recently that the team will take measures to reduce Montero's workload over the final weeks of the season, so his absence Friday is by no means surprising. Montero played both games of Wednesday's doubleheader against Cleveland -- with one start as the DH -- and caught Thursday's game as well. Tuffy Gosewisch will step in behind the plate Friday.

Manager Kirk Gibson acknowledged that Montero would receive more frequent rest over the final few weeks of the season, Jack Magruder of FoxSportsArizona.com reports.

With the Diamondbacks' playoff hopes already dashed for 2014, the team will take the next month and a half to assess some lesser-used options on the roster. Montero has already appeared in 102 games this season and has bounced back moderately well from last season's disastrous .230/.318/.344 line, alleviating some concerns that he might have been headed for a steep decline. Tuffy Gosewisch will receive more at-bats down the stretch while Montero rests up, likely two or three times a week.

Montero will sit out his second straight game Sunday vs. the Rockies, MLB.com's Steve Gilbert reports.

It was believed Montero was just receiving a typical day off Saturday, but his back-to-back absences suggest that he may be dealing with some kind of an injury. Stay tuned for an update on his status after the game, as it could have a significant impact on his availability for the upcoming week.

Montero is out of the lineup Saturday against the Rockies.

Montero has started four straight games and a lefty in Jorge De La Rosa is on the mound for Colorado, so it makes perfect sense that manager Kirk Gibson is turning to Tuffy Gosewisch to man the backstop Saturday. A three-run homer in the first inning of Friday's game ended a 26-game homerless streak for Montero.

Montero (.262/.348/.410) went 1-for-1 with three walks, a run scored and three RBI on Friday against the Rockies, while driving out a 390-foot homer over the right field fence at Chase Field.

It was Montero's 12th homer of the season in a night where he reached base four times, igniting a sometimes stagnant D-Backs offense. The homer was a first-inning shot off Rockies starter Tyler Matzek. Montero remains one of the better hitting catchers in the league.

Montero went 3-for-4 with a double in the Diamondbacks' 4-3 loss to the Royals on Wednesday.

With the three-hit performance, Montero is 5-for-15 in August. After batting .230 in July, Montero's hot start in August has pushed his average to .260 on the year. He has hit safely in six of his last eight.
