Brandon McCarthy SP NYY 1 Month

Brandon McCarthy, making his Yankees debut, allowed four runs (one earned) over 6 2/3 innings in Wednesday's 5-4, 14-inning win over the Indians.

McCarthy joined the Yankees in the trade that sent Vidal Nuno to the D'Backs on Sunday. The right-hander allowed three unearned runs in the first inning and one earned run in the fourth. Overall, he surrendered nine hits, walked one, and struck out three. Combined with his time with the D'Backs, McCarthy is 3-10 with a 4.80 ERA and a 96/21 K/BB ratio. McCarthy will face the Reds at Yankee Stadium following the All-Star break.

Yankees acquired RHP Brandon McCarthy and cash from the Diamondbacks in exchange for LHP Vidal Nuno.

The Diamondbacks will eat $2.05 million of the roughly $4.8 million remaining on McCarthy's contract, while the Yankees will pick up his $1 million assignment bonus. The tall right-hander holds a 5.01 ERA this season but sports an impressive 93/20 K/BB ratio and has seen a spike in his velocity. His ability to get grounders will help him at Yankee Stadium, though he won't have a very good defense behind him.

Chris Cotillo of reports that the Yankees have acquired Brandon McCarthy from the Diamondbacks in exchange for Vidal Nuno.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal and CBS Sports' Jon Heyman are also saying that the trade is done. ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the D'Backs are also sending cash to the Yankees in the deal. Although he's 3-10 with a 5.01 ERA, McCarthy has upped his velocity this season and boasts a nice 93/20 K/BB ratio. Yankee Stadium obviously isn't an ideal landing spot, but he should be an upgrade over Nuno.

Brandon McCarthy improved to 3-10, allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings as the D'Backs easily defeated the Pirates by a 10-2 margin on Thursday.

McCarthy didn't have the benefit of much run support, as the D'Backs scored seven in the ninth. They did, however, kindly take the lead in the top of the sixth. McCarthy allowed eight hits and walked two while striking out six, earning his second consecutive win. Now with a 5.01 ERA, a 1.38 WHIP, and a 93/20 K/BB ratio, McCarthy will look to further improve his trade value in next week's start against the Marlins at home.

Brandon McCarthy limited the Padres to one run in seven innings Friday to improve to 2-10 on the season.

Only against the Padres. The Diamondbacks are 3-0 this year when McCarthy faces San Diego and 0-14 when he faces anyone else. Since the beginning of last year, McCarthy has a 4-1 record versus the Padres and a 3-20 record against everyone else. We don't want it to sound like we're trashing McCarthy; he certainly deserves a better record than his current mark. Still, it is fortunate that he has gotten to pitch against the Padres once a month.

Brandon McCarthy was tagged for five runs in five innings Saturday in a loss to the Giants.

McCarthy fell to 1-10 on the season. While his peripherals have generally been quite good even while he's racked up the losses, he gave up 10 hits and struck out just two in this one. A change of scenery would probably do him some good and might materialize at some point in the next few weeks.

Brandon McCarthy fell to 1-8 after allowing three runs in 6 1/3 innings and striking out nine against the Braves on Friday.

No help for McCarthy has been a running theme this year; this makes eight times in his 13 starts that the Diamondbacks have scored two runs or fewer. We still like the way he's throwing; he has 72 strikeouts in 79 innings this year, nearly matching his totals of 76 in 135 innings in 2013 and 73 in 111 innings in 2012.

Brandon McCarthy surrendered five runs in 4 1/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Reds.

There's been no average for McCarthy lately; in his last six starts, he's allowed one or no runs three times and five or more runs three times. We still like the increased velocity, but pitching for a bad team in an offense-heavy ballpark isn't working out very well for him.

Brandon McCarthy allowed five runs on nine hits over 6 2/3 innings in Mondays's no-decision versus the Padres.

McCarthy struck out four, walked none, and gave up a pair of homers. Yonder Alonso's solo homer led off a rough fifth inning, and Everth Cabrera's three-run long fly put an exclamation mark on it. McCarthy yielded just two runs over 14 innings in his last two outings, giving a smattering of owners hope that he'd be an NL-only contributor, but owners will have to content themselves in his solid peripherals alone for now. The right-hander, 1-6 with a 4.87 ERA and 1.26 WHIP, hosts Cincinnati over the weekend.

Brandon McCarthy tossed six innings of one-run ball in a no-decision Wednesday versus the Cardinals.

McCarthy got no runs of support while he was in the game and the Cardinals eventually won in extra innings. The right-hander has been excellent in two straight starts against tough-hitting teams and will try to keep it rolling next week when he faces the Padres at home.
