Brandon McCarthy threw a three-hit shutout as the Diamondbacks beat the Marlins 1-0 on Saturday.

Everybody looks a little better facing the Marlins, but it's the second-straight outing that McCarthy has held the opponent scoreless and he's now turned in three consecutive quality starts. After his early struggles, McCarthy seems to have turned a corner. We look for him to be more consistent going forward. His next turn will come against the Padres on Friday.

Brandon McCarthy threw eight scoreless innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Phillies.

It was McCarthy's best start to date, but he still wasn't able to get the win thanks to a blown save by Heath Bell. The Diamondbacks made a questionable decision not to let him go for the complete game, as he was removed after just 88 pitches. McCarthy has now put together back-to-back quality starts and is starting to look more like the pitcher he was in 2012. He has 5.63 ERA and 1.54 WHIP through his first eight starts.

Brandon McCarthy surrendered four runs over six innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Giants.

Par for the course for McCarthy this year. What was odd about his rough April (0-3, 7.48 ERA) was that he was so poor while surrendering just three homers in his five starts. Tonight he was a more traditional kind of bad, giving up long balls to Angel Pagan and Hunter Pence. The home run ball figured to be more of a problem for him in Arizona than it was in Oakland; so far, he's given up three homers at Chase, one in Colorado and another in Yankee Stadium.

Brandon McCarthy dropped to 0-3 after giving up six runs in six innings Friday against the Rockies.

McCarthy struck out seven tonight after fanning a total of 11 batters in his first four starts. So that would seem to be a good sign. Still, he gave up nine more hits, bringing his total to 45 allowed in 27 2/3 innings on the season. He simply has to get better if he stays healthy.

Brandon McCarthy escaped with a no-decision after giving up four runs on eight hits over six innings Sunday against the Rockies.

McCarthy was bailed out by late-game heroics from Gerardo Parra and Alfredo Marte. It's been a rough start to the season for McCarthy, who now owns a 7.06 ERA and 1.85 WHIP. He'll look to get back on track Friday in a rematch with the Rockies.

Brandon McCarthy exited after allowing nine hits and four walks in four innings against the Yankees on Tuesday.

It's the third straight subpar start for the right-hander, who now owns a 7.47 ERA and 2.04 WHIP on the year. He's a better real-life pitcher than fantasy pitcher, and when he's struggling like this it makes him virtually unusable. His next start, Sunday in Colorado, doesn't bode much better.

Brandon McCarthy surrendered six runs -- four earned -- in 6 2/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the Pirates.

Five of the runs came in the fourth, an inning that started on a Jason Kubel error. Obviously, McCarthy's Diamondbacks tenure hasn't opened as hoped -- he's 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA -- but there's no reason to be down on him yet.
