Victor Martinez (side) remained out of the Tigers' lineup Wednesday.

The Tigers are likely to hold Martinez out until the All-Star break at this point, hoping he'll be ready immediately at the start of the second half. He hasn't played since leaving last Friday's game with soreness in his side.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Tuesday that the topic of Victor Martinez (side) going on the disabled list has "been broached but it's not really been considered."

The Tigers are trying to wait it out until the All-Star break, though they haven't ruled out V-Mart returning before then. If they make a retroactive DL move, Martinez wouldn't be eligible to return until the fourth game of the second half. J.D. Martinez is in the DH spot Tuesday.

Victor Martinez (side, back) is out of the Tigers' lineup again Tuesday.

Martinez hasn't played since leaving Friday's game with back soreness. He has also dealt with an injury to his side in recent days, so we wouldn't count on much from him this week.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Saturday that they're taking things day-to-day with Victor Martinez, but could shut him down until after the All-Star break if "push comes to shove".

Martinez has been an absolute force at the plate this season, slashing .328/.391/.599 with 21 homers and 55 RBI in 80 games. He has been dealing with injuries to his side and back in recent weeks, and was also hit by a pitch in his knee during Friday's game.

Victor Martinez (back) is not in the Tigers starting lineup on Saturday.

It's not a surprise after Martinez was pulled from Friday's game with a back injury. He's likely to sit on Sunday as well before rejoining the Tigers starting lineup for Tuesday's series opener against the Dodgers.

Victor Martinez was removed from the eighth inning of Friday's game against the Rays due to a sore back.

Martinez has been battling various ailments over the past week, forcing him to miss three games to start the week. He was also hit by a pitch in his knee during Friday's game, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him get a day to rest on Saturday.

Victor Martinez slugged one of the Tigers' three home runs in the first inning, going 2-for-3 with a walk overall in Thursday's trampling of the Rays.

Erik Bedard didn't have much fun facing the Tigers. Ian Kinsler slugged a two run shot, Martinez followed up with a two-run shot of his own, and Torii Hunter polished off the inning with a solo blast. Martinez has been the Tigers' best hitter this season, which is quite an accomplishment considering who's at first base. The DH is slashing .327/.389/.600 with 21 home runs and 54 RBI.

Victor Martinez is back in the Tigers' lineup Thursday.

Martinez missed the previous three games due to soreness in his rib cage area. It's an injury that can be aggravated easily, so hopefully V-Mart is past it. The designated hitter is sporting a .323/.384/.589 batting line with 20 homers and 52 RBI over 78 games this season.

He's now missed three straight starts due to soreness in his rib cage area. The Tigers haven't indicated to this point that it's more than a day-to-day injury for Martinez, but obviously the disabled list will be considered if the ailment lingers.
