Boone Logan RP COL 3 Months

Rockies placed LHP Boone Logan on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 12, with diverticulitis.

Logan had been dealing with a neck injury, but it's an infection in his colon that is sending him to the disabled list. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be sidelined. Nick Masset was activated from the DL to take Logan's spot on the roster.

He hasn't pitched since July 11 because of the ailment, but the Rockies are confident that he won't need a trip to the disabled list. Logan should be ready later this week.

The veteran southpaw missed a couple of weeks due to inflammation in his pitching elbow. Before being placed on the shelf, he posted a 5.87 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 22/6 K/BB ratio over 15 1/3 innings.

Boone Logan (elbow) is nearing a rehab assignment after getting through a live batting practice session with no issues Tuesday.

Logan thinks he could return now without a rehab assignment, but he's expected to make two appearances before being activated. "If I had a say, I'd say, 'Let's rock n roll,' but I have to wait," said Logan. "This is my first time dealing with this kind of stuff."

Logan has missed the last few weeks with inflammation in his pitching elbow. The left-hander figures to need a handful of rehab appearances before rejoining the Rockies' bullpen.

He apparently tried to pitch through the soreness for a while. Logan got a late start to the season while coming back from offseason surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow. The good news is that an MRI showed no structural damage, but it's not clear how long Logan will be sidelined. The Rockies haven't announced a corresponding move.

Logan underwent offseason surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow and the Rockies didn't want to rush him back for Opening day. The southpaw signed a three-year, $16.5 million deal with Colorado over the winter and will help serve as a bridge in the late innings.

He'll pitch for Colorado Springs on Thursday and Friday before being re-evaluated. Logan is eligible to return from the disabled list on Saturday, and it seems likely that he'll be activated then unless he has a setback.
