Lester has agreed to a six-year, $155 million deal with the Cubs, Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports reports.

The Red Sox reportedly offered a six-year, $135 million deal, but the left-hander will reunite with former Boston general manager Theo Epstein on the north side of Chicago and head up the rebuilding Cubs' rotation.

The free-agent lefty met with the Red Sox, Cubs and Braves this past week and, according to a source, reports, has visits scheduled with two more teams next week. Another report from cites a source close to the situation who indicates the Red Sox are "willing to negotiate" with Lester and his representatives. That suggests the pitcher is looking for a higher average-annual value.

Lester will start for the Athletics in Tuesday's wild-card game against the Royals, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Lester was one of the A's big trade acquisitions this season, and he will be on the mound for the biggest game of the season to this point. He posted a 2.35 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with 71 strikeouts over 76.2 innings with the Athletics since being traded to the team from the Red Sox for Yoenis Cespedes.

Lester has more than done his job for the A's after they acquired him from the Red Sox prior to the trade deadline. He has posted a quality start in his first eight starts with the A's. Lester has a stellar 2.52 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 199:42 K:BB in 199.2 innings this year. His next start is scheduled for Sunday on the road against the Mariners.

Felix Hernandez was simply better on the other side, limiting the Oakland offense to an Adam Dunn solo home run. All seven of Lester's starts with the A's have been quality outings, but he's been saddled with a loss in three of his last four turns. He'll seek wins No. 14 and 15 next week, first against the White Sox on Tuesday before a second start September 14 against the Mariners at Safeco Field.
