Gerald Laird C ATL 7 Months
Braves placed C Gerald Laird on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 26, with a kidney stone.
Laird underwent a procedure Wednesday to remove his kidney stone but still needs a few more days to recover. He should be a candidate to rejoin the team next week when first eligible.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Gerald Laird (kidney stone) needs a few more days to recover.
Laird waited three days to pass the stone before Wednesday's procedure to remove it. He will not travel with the team to Philadelphia. With Brian McCann and Evan Gattis behind the dish, Atlanta has the luxury of waiting for Laird to recover without placing him on the disabled list.

Gerald Laird and Fredi Gonzalez were ejected in the third inning of Friday's game against the Phillies after arguing balls and strikes with home plate umpire Angel Hernandez.
Laird got heated after being called out on a questionable third strike to end the top half of the third inning, and Gonzalez got tossed for sticking up for his catcher after the fact. Brian McCann replaced Laird in the Braves lineup.

Gerald Laird went 1-for-3 in a rare start against the Mets on Sunday.
He has just four hits this month. Laird had four multi-hit games in April, but Atlanta understandably has no interest trotting him out with Evan Gattis and Brian McCann also on the roster. Outside of ocean-deep NL-only leagues, Laird (.267/.340/.311 over 53 plate appearances) can be ignored in fantasy.

Gerald Laird (calf) is in the Braves' lineup Saturday.
Laird hasn't played the last week while dealing with a calf injury. The 33-year-old will open the season as the Braves' starting catcher with Brian McCann (shoulder) sidelined, but is doubtful to carry any fantasy value.

Braves signed C Gerald Laird to a two-year contract.
Financial terms aren't known. The deal was reported Thursday and has now become official after Laird passed his physical. The 33-year-old will have to start for the first few weeks of the season while Brian McCann recovers from shoulder surgery before then sliding into a backup role.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Braves have reached an agreement with Gerald Laird.
Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but MLB.com's Mark Bowman hears that it's going to be a two-year contract. Laird will serve as Brian McCann's primary backup in 2013 and 2014 after batting .282/.337/.374 in 191 plate appearances as Alex Avila's understudy in 2012. The 33-year-old is doubtful to carry any sort of fantasy value in Atlanta.
