In addition to using the opposite field more frequently, Kinsler is hoping to draw more walks after taking a free pass just 29 times in 726 trips to the plate in 2014. The Tigers are planning on using Kinsler as a leadoff option against right-handed starters, and as their likely No. 2 hitter against lefties when Rajai Davis slots into the top spot.

Kinsler is the current frontrunner to lead off for the Tigers against right-handed pitching, the Detroit News reports.With Rajai Davis positioned to play against left-handed starters, Kinsler would likely move into the No. 2 hole against southpaws. After posting a .307 OBP last season, Kinsler will need to show better plate discipline (29 walks in 726 plate appearances in 2014) in order to remain a viable option atop the lineup in Detroit.

It was a nice all-around evening for Kinsler (.282/.314/.424) who is still looking for consistency after hitting a tough slump. Kinsler remains one of the better second basemen in the league, so you have to ride the ups-and-downs from his bat. Kinsler now has five hits in his last four games played.

Kinsler has been the worst of a Tigers lineup as a whole that has been struggling. Twice on Sunday he popped out with a runner on third and less than two outs, and went 1-for-12 over the weekend series against the Mariners.

Martinez has been nursing side and back injuries that have kept him out of action for the last week, so he'll sit out the Mid-Summer Classic as well. He will be well represented by his Tigers' teammate who's having a terrific year, slashing .305/.339/.477 with 11 homers, 49 RBI and nine stolen bases.
