According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, Matt Joyce remains the most likely candidate to serve as the Rays primary designated hitter in 2014.

The 29-year-old outfielder faded in the second half of the 2013 season, but still slashed .235/.328/.419 with 18 homers, 61 runs scored and seven steals in 413 at-bats. As long as he continues to see regular duty against right-handed pitching, he's a nice reserve outfielder option in deep mixed leagues for his sneaky combination of power and speed.

Matt Joyce has gained almost 20 pounds this offseason in hopes he'll have more power and will stay stronger throughout the season.

"I think that in itself is going to help," Joyce told the Tampa Bay Times. "Everything looked great last year, but I felt a little weaker." Joyce started last season strong, hitting 14 home runs through June 15, but went on to hit just four over a dismal second half. He'll likely serve as the Rays' everyday DH next season.

Rays avoided arbitration with OF Matt Joyce by agreeing to a one-year, $3.7 million contract.

Joyce was eligible for arbitration for the second time this offseason. He's coming off a disappointing year where he batted just .235/.328/.419 for the Rays. Joyce is slated to be the club's primary DH in 2014.

Matt Joyce went 2-for-5 and scored the winning run in the Rays' 5-4 win over the Mariners on Wednesday.

Joyce scored two of the Rays' five runs on the night, including the game-winner on Jason Bourgeois' single in the bottom of the ninth inning. Earlier in the inning Joyce drove in the game-tying run following a Ben Zobrist triple. It's been a mixed bag for Joyce this year, as he's hitting .247/.336/.428 with 14 home runs and seven stolen bases as a nearly everyday player.

Matt Joyce finished 3-for-3 with two walks, a double, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

Sporadic playing time robs Joyce of some fantasy potential, but he doesn't deserve more at-bats against left-handers, against whom Joyce has hit .170 with no walks this season. Joyce is batting .246/.337/.433 with 14 homers.

Matt Joyce was not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins.

Rays manager Joe Maddon generally sits the lefty-swinging Joyce against southpaws, but decided to give him a breather against mediocre Twins right-hander Kevin Correia, against whom Joyce is 7-for-22 with four homers in his career. Doing so allowed Maddon to insert Kelly Johnson into the lineup as the left fielder. Joyce is batting .245/.329/.453 with 14 homers on the year.

Matt Joyce smashed his 13th home run of the season in a losing effort against the Royals on Friday.

Joyce led off the home half of the first inning with a towering blast off Luis Mendoza to knot the score at 1-1. He finished the night 2-for-4, and has been a very pleasant surprise atop the Rays' lineup. Fantasy owners have to be pleased with his .269/.351/.523 line with 13 bombs, 30 RBI, 37 runs scored and six stolen bases to date.

Matt Joyce was 2-for-4 against the Royals on Thursday.

Joyce's value is capped because he often sits against left-handed starters, but that hasn't stopped him from putting up big numbers for the Rays. He's batting .264/.348/.503 with 12 homers and six steals over 193 at-bats.

Matt Joyce (hamstring) was 1-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored in his return to action Friday.

Joyce left Tuesday's game with a tight hamstring and sat out Wednesday. The 28-year-old is batting .252/.336/.488 with eight home runs, 20 RBI and an .824 OPS through 40 games this season and should continue to be a useful option in deeper mixed fantasy leagues.
