Gausman struck out seven and walked four while giving up two runs on five hits over seven innings against the Rays on Saturday.

It was widely assumed that Gausman would return from the Gulf Coast League to make his next scheduled start Monday, but manager Buck Showalter confirmed as much prior to Saturday's game. Gausman allowed one earned run on two hits and four walks, striking out two over six innings Sunday against the Indians.

Gausman's four free passes matched a season-high, and ultimately limited his longevity in this one, as he needed 91 pitches (51 strikes) to complete six frames. He was left in line to earn the victory, however, and improved to 7-4 on the season after winning his third start in his last four tries. The 23-year-old now owns a 3.70 ERA on the season, but he's given up a lot of base runners, and a 4.37 xFIP suggests that his ERA could be on the rise. He'll attempt to prove this notion wrong in his next scheduled start Saturday against the Cubs.

He brought a no-hitter into the fifth inning, but lost it after walking the bases loaded with two outs, allowing a two-run single and an RBI double. Overall, Gausman surrendered three hits, walked three, and struck out two. The 23-year-old has been solid out of the rotation, holding a 3.70 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP, and a 37/21 K/BB ratio. He'll take the hill on Monday in Washington against the Nationals as the two squads will make up July 8's postponed game.
