Rangers optioned RHPs Nick Tepesch, Cory Burns, and Miles Mikolas, and INF Andy Parrino to Triple-A Round Rock; reassigned RHP Daniel Bard, Cs Patrick Cantwell and Brett Nicholas, INF Kensuke Tanaka and OFs Brad Snyder and Bryan Petersen to minor league camp.

Tepesch is the biggest name of the bunch, but he pitched his way out of consideration for a roster spot after allowing 10 runs over eight innings of work this spring. Bard, formerly of the Red Sox and Cubs, is working his way back from thoracic outlet surgery and will likely begin the year on the minor league disabled list.

The Rangers are leaning towards keeping Nick Tepesch in the rotation for a start next Tuesday against the Rays.

Alexi Ogando is still under consideration, but it sounds like he'll remain in the bullpen. Tepesch allowed two runs over 3 1/3 innings on Sunday in his return to the Rangers' rotation.

Nick Tepesch will return to the Rangers rotation to start against the Angels on Sunday in Anaheim.

It will be the first start for the 24-year-old right-hander since returning from the disabled list. On the season, he owns a 4-6 record, 4.67 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 71/23 K/BB over 88 2/3 innings of work. He's a matchup play at best, and should probably be avoided for this start.

Tepesch has been sidelined since July 7 due to inflammation in his right elbow. He's expected to work primarily out of the bullpen down the stretch for the Rangers.

His first game since July 7 due to right elbow inflammation, Tepesch gave up three hits and walked one walking striking out none. He threw a total of 41 pitches. The Rangers are hoping he'll be able to rejoin the rotation in early September.
