Hunter has retired from baseball, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
After logging 19 professional seasons, Hunter will rightfully call it a career as a Twin, with whom he spent 12 years. Over the course of the last nearly two decades, he racked up five All-Star game appearances and nine Gold Glove Awards. While he was noted for his spectacular catches in the outfield, he wasn't too shabby with a bat either, posting a .277/.331/.461 slash line with 353 homers, 1,391 RBI, 1,296 runs, and 195 stolen bases.

EDGE Analysis
The veteran Hunter will join many of the other regulars on the bench for the final day of the regular season. Max Kepler will receive the start in right field in his place, batting third for the Twins.

Hunter smacked his 22nd homer of the year in Thursday's loss to Cleveland.
EDGE Analysis
You'd figure that a 40-year-old would tire down the stretch, but September's been one of Hunter's best months of this season, as he's hitting a terrific .329/.356/.543 with four homers in 18 games. It's too bad that he put together three mediocre-to-awful months in between his big May and September efforts, as that inconsistency has done significant damage to Hunter's season stats.

Hunter went 2-for-5 with his 20th homer, three RBI and two runs against the Angels on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
At age 40, Hunter's now reached 20 homers for the first time since 2011 and the 11th time in his career. Still, the early success that Hunter achieved faded away in a midseason slump, with his OPS dropping from .792 at the end of June to a low point of .686 on the second day of September. He's heated up recently, though -- Hunter's on a six-game hitting streak and has racked up 15 hits (including three doubles and two homers) in his last 37 at-bats. That's a .405 clip. Hunter's surely been cut loose in the majority of shallower formats by now, and it's worth grabbing him while he's hot.

Hunter went 2-for-4 with his 19th home run in Sunday's win over the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Hunter has faded in the second half of the season (hitting .192 with a .555 OPS after the All Star game before Sunday), but he's turning things around lately by going 10-for-25 with a home run over his last six games.

Hunter is expected to be on the bench for Wednesday's game against the Rays, LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hunter continues to receive ample rest as the season wears on, and that's the case again Wednesday. He'll be protected from Rays ace Chris Archer, but the veteran outfielder should return to the lineup within the next few days.

Hunter went 2-for-5 Saturday with a two-run blast, his 14th home run of the season. While his batting average has sunk to .259, Hunter continues to supply solid power numbers and he's on pace for his best home run total since 2007.
