Puig is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals.

Puig went 1-for-8 with seven strikeouts over the last two games, so manager Don Mattingly decided to hold him out Tuesday with the Dodgers facing elimination. Andre Ethier will take Puig's spot in center field, and Carl Crawford will hit second in his place.

Puig went 1-for-4 with a walk and his 16th home run of the year in a 9-1 win over the Giants.

Puig was 0-for-9 in the series versus San Francisco before hitting an opposite-field solo shot in the sixth inning. The Cuban import has proven to be a streaky hitter and the Dodgers would love to see him heat up for the postseason, now that the NL West has been locked up.

Puig will bat leadoff Wednesday against the Padres.

With Dee Gordon getting a night off, Puig will move atop the order, a spot in which he's logged 37 at-bats so far this season. Puig, who batted seventh Tuesday, is 4-for-22 so far in September after batting .216/.296/.247 in August, so he figures to hit primarily near the bottom of the order over the final weeks.

Puig was 0-for-2 with a walk Sunday in his return from a stomach ailment.

Despite batting just .216/.296/.247 in August, Puig should continue to be in the lineup most every day this month. Puig batted just .214 last September, but hopefully for his owners' sake, a better finish is in store this year.

Puig (illness) is back in the lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

Puig missed Saturday's game due to an illness, but will return to center field and bat seventh in the batting order for the first time in his career. After going cold to the tune of a .216 August batting average, Puig will look to turn things around against opposing starter Trevor Cahill.
