Red Sox acquired 2B Jonathan Herrera from the Rockies for LHP Franklin Morales and RHP Chris Martin.
Herrera has slashed a ho-hum .265/.325/.332 over 1,100-plus plate appearances the past five seasons in Colorado. The 29-year-old gives Boston a cheap utility infielder who plays outstanding defense at multiple positions for two more team-controlled years. He's not fantasy relevant.

If his slash numbers hold, Herrera will finish with the best offensive season of his career, topping the .694 OPS he mustered in 2010. Unfortunately, the utility infielder has scuffled in the field recently, recording three errors in his last 12 games.

Jonathan Herrera went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases in a win Saturday against the Rangers.
Six Rockies had at least two hits in the 11-7 victory. Herrera, activated from the DL Friday and batting leadoff, swiped his first two bags of the season and raised his average by 11 points, to .250. With Troy Tulowitzki out for the foreseeable future, Herrera could carve out enough at-bats to become relevant in deeper NL-only formats.

Rockies activated INF Jonathan Herrera from the 15-day disabled list.
His presence means Marco Scutaro won't have to carry the load completely at shortstop while Troy Tulowitzki (groin) is sidelined. Herrera originally landed on the disabled list with a hamstring strain a month ago, but his return was delayed due to right shoulder soreness.
