Hermida signed a one-year, $500,000 contract with the Nippon Ham Fighters of Japan's Pacific League on Friday, the Associated Press reports. The Brewers granted Hermida his release a day earlier after he was offered a more lucrative opportunity to play in Asia. The 30-year-old slashed .256/.370/.456 at Triple-A Nashville in the Milwaukee organization last season and seemingly has little chance of reaching the big leagues again.

He posted an impressive .826 OPS in 108 games with Nashville last year, but he has not played in the big leagues since 2012 and will likely need a big season in Japan in order to do so again.
