Royals manager Ned Yost said Tuesday that he doesn't expect Norichika Aoki (groin) to return before the end of the team's road trip on July 9.

Tuesday is the first day Aoki was eligible to return, but it sounds like he's at least a week away. Jarrod Dyson will continue to benefit from more playing time while Aoki is on the shelf.

Royals placed OF Nori Aoki (groin) on the 15-day disabled list with a groin injury.

Aoki has been bothered by the injury this week and will now get some extended rest. The Royals called up Justin Maxwell to take his spot on the active roster, but Jarrod Dyson figures to see an uptick in playing time during Aoki's absence. He's worth picking up in deeper mixed leagues.

Norichika Aoki (groin) is not in the Royals' lineup Wednesday.

Aoki exited Tuesday's contest with a groin cramp. He had said he'd be fine to play Wednesday, but it's no surprise the Royals are holding him him. Consider Aoki day-to-day. Lorenzo Cain is in right field Wednesday, with Jarrod Dyson manning center.

Norichika Aoki (groin) thinks he'll be ready to play on Wednesday.

Aoki exited Tuesday's contest with a groin injury, but he said it's just a cramp. It's good that he thinks he'll be ready to play Wednesday, but the smart money would be on him sitting for a day or two.

Norichika Aoki left Tuesday's game versus the Tigers with discomfort in his groin muscle.

Aoki must have injured himself at some point when he singled and eventually scored in the top of the second inning, as Lorenzo Cain took his spot in right field for the bottom of the frame. The Royals should update the outfielder's status after the game.

Royals manager Ned Yost said Tuesday that he has no plans to reduce Norichika Aoki's playing time.

"I'll give (Jarrod Dyson) a day here or there," Yost said. "But, to answer your question, no." Aoki has been a disappointment from the leadoff spot, batting just .259/.321/.313 with no homers and 12 RBI. He also hasn't played up to his reputation defensively, as the Royals have been subbing him out late in games recently. However, it appears Aoki's job is safe for now.
