Eaton is considering retiring as a player and making a move into coaching, with the Angels having met with him regarding a possible position on the team's staff before the lockout began Dec. 1, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
If Eaton is still eager to continue his playing career, he'll more than likely have to accept a minor-league deal after both the White Sox and Angels cast him off their 40-man rosters last season, when the 33-year-old outfielder managed a lowly .201/.282/.327 slash line over 288 plate appearances. Though he mostly stayed healthy in 2021, multiple injuries suffered in prior years appear to have caught up with Eaton, who no longer profiles as a plus runner and has seen his on-base and contact skills diminish. The Angels aren't able to finalize a contract with Eaton to join their coaching staff during the ongoing work stoppage, but once the lockout ends, expect the two sides to revisit those discussions. Eaton will also presumably stay engaged with any teams who are willing to offer him the chance to compete for a spot on an Opening Day roster.

Eaton was designated for assignment by the Angels on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Eaton signed with the Angels over the All-Star break after being let go by the White Sox, and he's again lost his spot on a big-league roster. The 32-year-old appeared in 26 games for the Halos and slashed .200/.232/.277 in 69 plate appearances, which is worse than his numbers (.201/.298/.344) with the White Sox.

Eaton has been getting reps at first base in anticipation of possibly being needed to field the position during contests in National League parks, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Jared Walsh (chest) has yet to be activated from the injured list, so the Angels are somewhat shorthanded at first base for this weekend's interleague series against the Dodgers. With the games being played at Dodger Stadium, the team has had both Eaton and Justin Upton take grounders in anticipation of a possible in-game move that requires coverage at first. Eaton has started only once since Jo Adell was promoted to the big leagues Aug. 2 and isn't starting Saturday in Game 2 of the crosstown clash.

Eaton went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Thursday against the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
Eaton entered the starting lineup after a two-game absence. He led off the third inning with a home run, his sixth of the season but first since May 31. Eaton figures to see only sparing playing time with Jo Adell, Brandon Marsh and Justin Upton serving as the team's primary outfielders.

Eaton went 1-for-4 with a run and a stolen base in Sunday's 6-2 victory over the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran outfielder has notched double-digit thefts in four of his big-league campaigns, but Sunday's swipe was only his third (in three attempts) in 2021. He still boasts above-average sprint speed, but his .292 on-base percentage this season helps explain why he hasn't run more often.

Eaton will start in right field and bat seventh Tuesday against the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
Following Sunday's promotion of top prospect Brandon Marsh from Triple-A Salt Lake, Eaton and Taylor Ward look poised to stick in the Angels' everyday outfield ahead of Juan Lagares. Eaton, who has gone 3-for-12 with a double in his first four games with the Angels, will make his third straight start Tuesday, but he may not have much longevity as a lineup regular because Justin Upton (back) and Mike Trout (calf) are both likely to be activated from the injured list before the end of the month.

Eaton went 2-for-4 with a double and a run in Friday's loss to the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
After signing a big-league contract with the Angels on Wednesday, Eaton started in right field and batted seventh in the order in the team's first game following the All-Star break. The veteran doubled in his first at-bat and singled to start a ninth-inning rally that fell just short. With outfielders Mike Trout (calf) and Justin Upton (back) on the injured list, Eaton is expected to play "a lot" in right field, per Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times.

Eaton is starting in right field Friday against the Mariners, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Eaton was signed by the Angels on Wednesday after being released by the White Sox on Monday. The veteran outfielder slashed just .201 across 189 at-bats with Chicago this season, but per Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register, manager Joe Maddon said Eaton will get the bulk of the playing time in right field during the foreseeable future.
