Ryan Hanigan is not in Saturday's lineup against the Marlins.

Hanigan has been bothered by a sore right thumb since last week, but he doesn't appear to be a candidate for the disabled list. Devin Mesoraco is taking his place in the lineup Saturday.

Ryan Hanigan is just 2-for-32 this season after going hitless Monday against the Phillies.

Hanigan has started 10 of the Reds' 13 games over Devin Mesoraco despite his slow start at the plate. Figure that the trend will continue; the Reds are 0-3 in Mesaraco's starts, with the pitchers giving up a total of 23 runs.

Hanigan hasn't played since Friday due to a sore left oblique. "He's getting better," Baker said. "He hit this morning. I would say realistically, two or three [more] days."

Ryan Hanigan was scratched from Friday's Cactus League game because of a left oblique injury.

The Reds don't think at the moment that it's a serious strain, but oblique ailments have a tendency to linger, so you never know. Devin Mesoraco is taking Hanigan's spot in Friday's lineup.

Ryan Hanigan went 1-for-4 in his return to the Reds' starting lineup on Wednesday night.

Hanigan wound up missing just one game with a bruised shoulder. The 32-year-old catcher has posted a stellar .370 on-base percentage in 108 games this season while playing solid defense behind the plate. He has truly played an important role in the Reds' success.
