Travis Hafner DH NYY 1 Month

Travis Hafner (shoulder) says he's available to pinch-hit Friday.

Hafner hasn't played since Monday due to shoulder tendinitis, but he was encouraged after a batting practice session Thursday. He likely would have started against a right-hander, but southpaw Mark Buehrle is on the hill for the Blue Jays. Perhaps he'll be back in there Saturday against Brandon Morrow.

Travis Hafner will undergo an MRI on his right shoulder.

Hafner has been experiencing shoulder soreness recently, so he's going to rest for a few days and try to get some answers. The 35-year-old has a lengthy injury history, so the Yankees will be cautious. Fortunately, the Yankees can plug Vernon Wells in at DH now that Curtis Granderson (forearm) is back from the disabled list.

Travis Hafner belted a pinch-hit, go-ahead solo homer in Wednesday's comeback win over the Diamondbacks.

Hafner didn't start with the opposition sending a lefty to the mound, but he got his chance against right-handed electric setup man David Herandnez in the eighth and didn't disappoint. The Yankees are not concerned about the general stiffness that prevented Travis Hafner from playing Saturday.

"He just wasn't able to do his normal routine, his normal cage stuff," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "He was a little stiff. Nothing to be concerned about. He spends a lot of time getting loose every day and doing his routine, getting in hot tubs and taking his time in the cage. We just didn't have time to do that today." Hafner should be fine for the start of the 2013 regular season.
