Gorzelanny felt lingering soreness during a throwing session on Tuesday, necessitating the shutdown. He hadn't appeared in a game since September 2. "I'll get ready for next year," he said.

The veteran southpaw has been on the shelf since September 2 when he was forced out of a relief appearance due to inflammation in his rotator cuff. The only throwing that he has done since suffering the injury has been on flat ground in the outfield.

Gorzelanny said his left shoulder felt "not quite right" in a start last week, and he then had an early exit from a relief appearance Monday. "We'll see what we need to do," said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke.
