Tigers released SS Alex Gonzalez. Well, that didn't last long. Desperate for a replacement for Jose Iglesias, the Tigers traded Steve Lombardozzi for Gonzalez in a late-spring deal. The veteran infielder wound up lasting just three weeks, as he hit just .167/.219/.233 while showing diminished range in the field. The Tigers will go with Andrew Romine and Danny Worth at shortstop.

Alex Gonzalez hit a walkoff RBI single in the Tigers' 4-3 defeat of the Royals on Opening Day. Gonzalez smacked an RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 3-3 and then played the role of hero in the bottom of the ninth against Greg Holland, one of the best closers in the game. It was a nice debut for the veteran shortstop, but he's far from an attractive fantasy option. Gonzalez, 37, hit .177/.203/.230 in 118 plate appearances last season for the Brewers.

Tigers acquired INF Alex Gonzalez from the Orioles for INF Steve Lombardozzi. The Tigers recently lost starting shortstop Jose Iglesias to dual leg fractures and are now scrambling to fill the vacancy. Gonzalez, 37, batted just .177/.203/.230 in 118 plate appearances last season for the Brewers and had to settle for a minor league contract this winter from the O's. He's not a very exciting option for Detroit.

Alex Gonzalez underwent an endoscopy after concerns arose over a physical. Gonzalez is anemic and needed to take iron pills, which caused the irregularity with his blood. The veteran infielder will be fine and has a shot to crack the Opening Day roster with Manny Machado (knee) likely to begin the year on the DL.

Non-roster infielder Alex Gonzalez hit a two-run homer Saturday against the Red Sox. With Manny Machado seemingly likely to start off on the DL, Gonzalez has a chance of making the Orioles. Really, though, he might be more useful somewhere else. He was injured and miscast in Milwaukee last year, but he still has value as a backup infielder.

Orioles signed INF Alex Gonzalez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Gonzalez, who will turn 37 in a couple weeks, batted just .177/.203/.230 over 41 games for the Brewers last season before being released in June. The veteran infielder played some third and first base last season and could crack the Orioles' Opening Day roster as a backup infielder.

Brewers released INF Alex Gonzalez. Gonzalez was given his outright release after batting just .177/.203/.230 with one home run through his first 41 games. The move clears a spot for the recently-acquired Juan Francisco on the active roster.

Alex Gonzalez delivered a two-run double in Friday's win over the Pirates. The Brewers couldn't get anything else going against A.J. Burnett and company, but it was enough for the victory. With the double, Gonzalez collected his first RBI since way back on May 2. The 36-year-old infielder is hitting just .188/.217/.248 through 37 games this season and can be ignored in most fantasy leagues.

Alex Gonzalez is sitting out for the second straight game Monday due to a tight left hamstring. Gonzalez expects to be back in the lineup on Tuesday. "It's just kind of tightness," Gonzalez said. "It feels like when you get hit with a ball and you touch it. I'll have two nights off and I'll be back tomorrow. It's no big deal." Yuniesky Betancourt is at third base Monday, with Martin Maldonado covering first.
