Carlos Gomez was ejected from Sunday's game against the Pirates for his part in a benches-clearing brawl.

Gomez flipped his bat and stared at what he thought was a home run off of Gerrit Cole in the third inning. Of course, the ball didn't go out and Gomez had to scramble into third for a triple. Cole took exception to the showboating and barked something at Gomez, which began the fracas. Gomez threw at least one punch in the melee, though he didn't connect. It's possible he'll be suspended.

Gomez was overshadowed by Ryan Braun's three-homer game, but he took some voracious cuts of his own and is now hitting .323 on the season. He is off to a hot start and may be in the process of disproving the skeptics who thought last year's All-Star season was a fluke.

Carlos Gomez hit a leadoff home run and stole a base in the Brewers' loss to the Braves on Tuesday.

Gomez took Alex Wood deep to open the bottom half of the first inning, his first homer of the year. He later stole his first base of 2014, and the center fielder also walked twice as he tries to get into the spirit of his new role as leadoff hitter. As demonstrated, Gomez is one of the most dangerous double threats in the game these days.
