Yovani Gallardo tossed a pair of scoreless innings in his Cactus League debut against the Giants on Friday.

Gallardo allowed just one hit and fanned one in the outing. The 28-year-old right-hander who once appeared to be progressing towards the game's elite hurlers, has taken a mighty step back in the last two seasons, culminating in a 4.18 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 144/66 K/BB ratio over 180 2/3 innings in 2013. If he can regain his command, he still has the tools to be a top of the rotation starter.

Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that the Brewers and Yovani Gallardo have "no plans" to discuss a contract extension during spring training.

The Brewers have a $13 million option on Gallardo for 2015, so it's not surprising that they're waiting to see if the righty can bounce back in 2014 before they commit to him over the long haul. The righty's velocity has been in a decline the last few years, and it really caught up with him last season. He'll earn $11.25 million this year.

Yovani Gallardo yielded two runs in six innings in Friday's 4-2 win over the Mets.

This has been a disappointing year for Gallardo, but he has pitched quite well since returning from a hamstring injury, allowing two earned runs or fewer in seven out of his last eight starts. He'll finish the season with a 4.18 ERA and 144/66 K/BB ratio over 180 2/3 innings. Still, with his declining velocity and whiff rate, his stock is on the decline in fantasy leagues.

Yovani Gallardo went 6 1/3 scoreless innings Saturday in the Brewers' 2-0 defeat of the Reds.

It was his first start since his late-July hamstring strain and he looked refreshed, yielding just three hits and two walks to a very good Reds team. Gallardo has been mostly disappointing this season but may be a guy to watch down the stretch. He'll get the Reds again next.
