Erasmo Ramirez SP SEA 13 Hrs
Ramirez was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma Friday, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
Ramirez will likely return to the big club when rosters expand in September, but with him unavailable for another day or two after starting Wednesday, the Mariners decided to remove him from the roster to make room for outfielder James Jones.
Erasmo Ramirez SP SEA 2 Days
Ramirez was tagged for 10 runs on nine hits over three innings in his start against the Rangers on Wednesday afternoon.
Wednesday marked the first time this season that the Mariners have allowed 10 runs in a game. Ramirez's status in the rotation beyond Wednesday's start was uncertain even prior to the poor result, but he'll presumably serve in a long relief role upon roster expansion in September if he doesn't stick with Seattle through the beginning of next week.
Erasmo Ramirez SP SEA 3 Days
Ramirez was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Ramirez will get the start Wednesday against the Rangers, but it's unclear if he'll stick in the rotation beyond that. James Paxton tossed 6.2 shutout innings Tuesday to build a strong case for a starting spot, and Ramirez may have to come close to matching that performance to hold down a spot of his role. The team could also make room for both pitchers in their rotation by bumping Roenis Elias to the bullpen, since his control has betrayed him in each of his last two turns.
Erasmo Ramirez SP SEA 4 Days
Ramirez will start Wednesday against the Rangers, MLB.com's Greg Johns reports.
He has a 4.06 ERA in 64.1 innings as a starter with Seattle this season, so he's not a horrible play in deeper leagues, especially considering the Rangers are only starting a few competent big-league hitters at the moment. It does seem likely, however, that this will just be a spot start for Ramirez, as the Mariners wanted to get Felix Hernandez on schedule to be able to start the American League Wild Card game.
Erasmo Ramirez SP SEA 5 Days
Though Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon doesn't foresee many players getting recalled with the September roster expansion, Ramirez appears to have a good chance to come back to the majors.
The Mariners are already carrying an eight-man bullpen, so their need for extra arms isn't acute. Ramirez and Taijuan Walker might be it for the Mariners.
Erasmo Ramirez SP SEA 19 Days
The Mariners optioned Ramirez to Triple-A Tacoma following Sunday's game, Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio KJR reports.
Ramirez was called up to start Sunday, and he pitched 4.1 scoreless innings in the Mariners' victory over the White Sox. He pitched well, but would have been unavailable for a few days, so the Mariners sent him back to Tacoma to open a roster spot. The Mariners have not announced who will get the call, but they did indicate it will be a position player.
Erasmo Ramirez SP SEA 20 Days
Ramirez was officially recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday to start against the White Sox.
Ramirez received the starting nod over fellow Triple-A starter Taijuan Walker. Though he owns a pedestrian 4.35 ERA and 1.51 WHIP over 12 starts with the Mariners this season, Ramirez has been far more impressive over his last five turns with the big club. He's limited the opposition to four runs over his last 27 innings, striking out a season-high 10 batters in his most recent outing July 22 against the Mets.
Erasmo Ramirez SP SEA 22 Days
Ramirez is expected to be recalled to start Sunday's game, the Tacoma News-Tribune's Bob Dutton reports.
Either Ramirez or Taijuan Walker was going to get the call to start Sunday, and it sounds like Ramirez is the likely candidate. He has a 4.35 ERA and a 5.27 FIP in 60 innings with the Mariners this season, so he's certainly not the candidate fantasy owners were hoping for.
Erasmo Ramirez SP SEA 1 Month
Mariners optioned RHP Erasmo Ramirez to Triple-A Tacoma.
He struck out 10 while allowing two runs over seven innings against the Mets Tuesday but gets the boot because the M's needed to clear room for Wednesday starter Taijuan Walker. Ramirez will be back up later this season.
Erasmo Ramirez SP SEA 1 Month
Erasmo Ramirez allowed two runs and gave up five hits in his seven innings of work against the Mets on Tuesday.
Ramirez made the most of his recent call-up, striking out a season-high ten and walking just two as he lowered his ERA to 4.35. He had the misfortune of facing off against Jacob deGrom, who matched him pitch-for-pitch and ended up with the win, dropping Ramirez to 1-5 on the season. We'll see if the quality effort leads to a few more starts. Prior to this start, his last work had come against the Red Sox in late June.
