Steve Clevenger C BAL 2 Days

Clevenger was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.

Clevenger has logged time with the Orioles in 26 games this season, batting a modest .240/.296/.373 with eight RBI and seven runs in 75 at-bats. He'll likely find it difficult to scrounge up plate appearances behind Caleb Joseph and Nick Hundley.

The O's carried three catchers for a while when they only needed four starters, but Bud Norris will rejoin the rotation Monday. Clevenger has hit .240/.296/.373 across 26 games for Baltimore this season.

He'll provide extra depth behind the plate and function as a utility option for the O's in the last two games leading up to the All-Star break. In 24 games with the Orioles this season, he's hitting .243/.300/.378 with eight RBI.

Clevenger was batting .243/.300/.378 in 24 games as the O's backup catcher. Baltimore acquired Nick Hundley from the Padres over the weekend for pitcher Troy Patton and will roll with Caleb Joseph as the backup for now. Matt Wieters is still out with an elbow injury.

Steve Clevenger was the Orioles offense on Monday, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI against the Tigers.

Clevenger has always been a decent enough hitter; it's defense that's held him back as he's attempted to establish himself in the majors. Until the Orioles get Matt Wieters back or acquire another catcher, Clevenger could be just fine as a second catcher in mixed leagues that require them. He'll get all of the playing time he can handle.

Steve Clevenger hit a walkoff RBI double Saturday in the Orioles' 10th-inning 5-4 win over the Astros.

Clevenger also singled twice earlier in the game, finishing 3-for-5. He's going to get semi-regular playing time while Matt Wieters nurses an elbow issue and may be worth a look in some deeper AL-only fantasy leagues.

Steve Clevenger went 3-for-3 on Tuesday to raise his spring average to .484.

Clevenger was told yesterday that he'd be Matt Wieters' backup. He's not quite as strong defensively as backups the Orioles have gone in the past, but he does offer a nice left-handed bat. Unfortunately, he won't get to use it that often, as Wieters gets as few days off as any AL catcher.

Steve Clevenger went 3-for-3 with a couple of doubles against the Blue Jays on Sunday.

Clevenger isn't a great defender, but it looks like the Orioles will go with him as Matt Wieters' backup this season. He's 12-for-22 with a homer and three walks this spring.

Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports believes that Steve Clevenger could serve as the Orioles primary backup catcher behind starter Matt Wieters.

The 27-year-old backstop who was acquired last season as part of the Scott Feldman trade, mashed the ball to the tune of .325/.401/.468 with five homers and 24 RBI in 44 games at Triple-A in 2013. As the roster is currently constructed, his only competition for the backup job will come from Johnny Monell, who was acquired from the Giants in late November.

Orioles recalled C Steve Clevenger from Triple-A Norfolk.

The 27-year-old backstop was acquired from the Cubs in early July as part of the Scott Feldman trade. He has been stinging the ball in 20 games at the Triple-A level with the O's, hitting .324/.402/.437 with two homers and 11 RBI. He'll provide catching depth for the O's, and could also see the occasional start at first base.
