Hamilton (shoulder) was slated to return Monday but instead sat out again after feeling sore in the morning, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

It still appears that the Reds are taking extra precautions with Hamilton rather than treating this injury as one with long-term implications. "He showed up after a night's sleep and it didn't feel a great deal better. It felt better after he'd done treatment the day before," manager Bryan Price said. "So it's just a matter of making sure it's right. It could affect his swing, his defense, his throwing. There's really no reason at all to run him out there and until he feels much better. And that could a couple of days."

Hamilton hurt the shoulder colliding with the wall earlier in the week. "It's just sore," said Hamilton. "It will be a couple of days and we'll see how it goes from there. Nothing major. If I had to play today, I would be fine. If it were the regular season, it would be no problem."

Hamilton has been working out in Atlanta with Triple-A manager Delino DeShields to improve his conditioning and strength after wearing down at the end of the season last year.

Hamilton hit just .200 after the All-Star break last year. "It was a long season, from running so much and that type of thing," Hamilton said. "I don't like to make excuses about anything. I didn't have a good second half, any way you put it. Whether I was tired or not tired, it was bad. I can admit to it. I can admit to my mistakes. I'm better prepared now."
