Alcides Escobar SS KC 6 Months

Alcides Escobar went 3-for-5 with three runs scored in a win over the Tigers on Tuesday.

The Royals scored all 11 of their runs in three innings, and Escobar had a run in each of the frames. The shortstop has now hit in all but one of his 15 games in June, and Tuesday was his fourth multi-hit game in his last six. He's raised his line to .295/.335/.406, and with 18 steals he's definitely a mixed league player at this point.

Alcides Escobar (calf) is in the Royals starting lineup for Saturday afternoon's tilt against the White Sox.

Escobar was removed from Friday's contest due to tightness in his calf, but it appears to be a very minor issue. He'll hit ninth against opposing hurler Hector Noesi on Saturday.

Alcides Escobar was forced to leave Friday's game against the White Sox due to tightness in his calf.

Escobar believes that the issue is minor and that he'll be able to return to the lineup on Saturday, but he'll test the calf out during batting practice to see how he feels. It looks as though he will avoid a trip to the disabled list and be able to return at some point this weekend.

Alcides Escobar went 2-for-4 with two RBI in a win over the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Escobar plated one run with his first triple of the season in the fifth inning, and he tied the score with an RBI single in the top of the eighth. After a miserable 2013 season, the shortstop is hitting .269 with 15 stolen bases and 26 runs scored, plenty useful in AL-only leagues and even some deeper mixed leagues.

Alcides Escobar stole two bases in the Royals' defeat of the Angels on Saturday night.

Escobar owns a weak .271/.317/.376 batting line in 48 games this season, but he has 14 steals and is currently on pace for 47. The speedy shortstop stole 22 bases in 2013 and a career-high 35 in 2012.

Getting another start in the second spot in the order, Alcides Escobar went 0-for-5 in Friday's loss to the Angels.

Escobar has started seven games in the two hole over the last couple of weeks, going 6-for-30 with no walks, one extra-base hit and no RBI. He's scored five runs in those games anyway, so perhaps it hasn't been a total loss. But he's a dreadful choice to hit second, as Ned Yost should have learned several times over by now.

Escobar had an RBI single in the second inning and also had an RBI groundout in the eighth inning. With Sunday's grand slam, Escobar has driven in seven runs in his last three games after driving in 10 in his first 35 games of the season. The shortstop is hitting .282/.336/.405 on the year.

With the bases loaded in the second inning, Escobar connected on a Roenis Elias pitch for his second home run of the season. The shortstop suffered through a miserable 2013 season at the plate, but he's batting .276/.331/.394 in a rebound campaign.

Alcides Escobar went 2-for-3 with his first home run of the season in Sunday's loss to the Twins.

The two-run shot came off Twins starter Phil Hughes. Escobar also doubled and scored in the game, and he's got his average up to .298 with a slew of multi-hit games recently. Sunday was his fifth multi-hit effort in his last eight starts.

Alcides Escobar went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in Friday's win over the Twins.

Escobar was hitting .167 as recently as last Friday, but he has delivered 10 hits in his last 21 at-bats to pull his average up to .294. If he can have a little better luck in the BABIP (batting average on balls in play) department this year, it's fair to expect a rebound season. However, with his lack of patience and power, his upside is limited. His value is tied to his speed.
