Wade Miley gave up five runs -- three earned -- over five innings Wednesday in a no-decision vs. the Cubs.

Miley looked decent in the early going and wound up striking out seven batters on the afternoon, but the Cubs got to him for three runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth. He would have been handed the loss, but the Diamondbacks rallied for five runs in the top of the ninth inning. Miley gets the Rockies next.

Wade Miley surrendered one run in six-plus innings Friday in a no-decision against the Dodgers.

Miley threw 106 pitches through six innings, yet manager Kirk Gibson allowed him to hit with a man on and two outs in the top of the seventh and then sent him back to the mound, even with nothing but right-handers due up. His evening ended just two pitches into the seventh, when Scott Van Slyke took him deep to tie the game at 1. It was some atrocious managing after some very good pitching from Miley.

Wade Miley hung on to win his 2014 season debut on Tuesday against the Giants, allowing four runs on six hits over seven frames.

He struck out five and issued one free pass. As an exercise in perseverance, Miley greatly succeeded in his first start of the new campaign. In the first inning, it was no guarantee that he'd reach even the third. Miley's season began with this unfortunate sequence: single, pop out, single, RBI single, strike out, wild pitch, three-run Brandon Belt homer. After that? Smooth sailing, as a runner didn't reach again until Buster Posey's two-out sixth-inning walk, a stretch of 15 consecutive downed batsmen. Miley will toe the rubber again in Colorado on Sunday.

Wade Miley yielded three runs over five innings Saturday in a loss to the Dodgers in the season opener in Australia.

Getting the nod after the Patrick Corbin injury, Miley allowed three hits and a pair of walks while striking out eight batters. The big blow was a two-run homer by Scott Van Slyke in the top of the fourth inning. Coming off a 3.55 ERA in 33 starts last season, Miley isn't going to miss a lot of bats this often (he has averaged 6.5 K/9 in the majors), but he makes for a fine option in the late rounds of mixed league drafts.

Miley punched out four while walking just one in the impressive outing. He's looked good in each of his first two spring starts now, exhibiting good command and throwing all of his pitches for strikes. Miley walked one and punched out a pair on the afternoon. He finishes with a 10-10 record, 3.55 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 147/66 K/BB ratio over 202 2/3 innings. His limited strikeout ability drives down his overall fantasy value, but he should again have value as a matchup play or backend starter in 2014.
