Matt Adams 1B STL 16 Days

Adams is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Marlins, FOX Sports Midwest reports.

It's a rare day off against a right-hander (Jarred Cosart) for Adams, who is just 1-for-15 in his last three games and 2-for-21 in his last five. Mark Ellis will draw the start at first base in his absence with Jhonny Peralta moving to the cleanup spot in the order. Despite his recent rough stretch, Adams is still batting .330/.348/.518 against right-handers this season, so his regular role is safe.

Matt Adams hit the Cardinals' first walkoff homer since 2011 Monday in a 2-0 win over the Pirates.

Incredibly, the Cardinals hadn't had a walkoff since David Freese's in Game 6 of the 2011 World Series. Adams also had the Cardinals' lone hit off Charlie Morton in the game, a first-inning double. The homer in the ninth off Justin Wilson came after Matt Carpenter walked to start the frame. It was Adams' 10th homer, seven of which have come in the 23 games since he returned from the disabled list.

Since returning from the disabled list on June 13, Adams is hitting .340 (16-for-47) with six home runs and 16 RBI. Matt Adams (calf) went 2-for-3 with a solo homer in his return from the disabled list Friday against the Nationals.

Talk about returning with a bang. Adams' second-inning blast off Jordan Zimmermann was the only offense of the night for either team. The 25-year-old hasn't shown much power so far this season, with just four home runs in 53 games, but he's hitting .330 with an .834 OPS.
