Once he's deemed ready for game action, Detwiler will presumably settle at Triple-A Louisville, where he'll be looking to perform well enough to earn a promotion to the big-league bullpen. The 36-year-old southpaw made 53 appearances (five starts) between the Marlins and Padres in 2021, logging a 4.64 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 62:20 K:BB across 52.1 innings.

Detwiler (3-1) earned the win over San Francisco on Thursday, pitching a scoreless inning during which he walked one batter.

The lefty reliever wasn't efficient in the outing, throwing only six of 16 pitches for strikes. He was able to escape the inning without any damage on the scoreboard, however, and he earned the win as a result of San Diego pulling out the victory in the bottom of the 10th. Since joining the Padres on Sept. 14, Detwiler has given up one run while notching a 4:4 K:BB across 3.2 innings.
