According to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com, the Indians will release outfielder/designated hitter Johnny Damon and right-hander Jeremy Accardo on Thursday.
Both players passed through waivers after being designated for assignment last week. According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, Damon hasn't heard if any contenders are interested in him, but he plans to continue to playing. The Indians are expected to either release or trade recently DFA'd right-hander Derek Lowe on Friday.

Indians designated OF Johnny Damon for assignment.
The Indians aren't fooling around, as they also designated fellow disappointing veteran Derek Lowe for assignment earlier this week. Damon batted just .222/.281/.329 with four homers and four steals over 64 games for the Tribe to earn his ticket out of town. It's no sure thing that he'll be picked up by anyone for the final two months of the season.

Johnny Damon launched a three-run home run, helping to lead the Indians to a 7-2 victory over the Orioles on Thursday.
The mammoth blast off Wei-Yin Chen in the second inning put the Tribe on the board, and provided more than enough support for Zach McAllister and the Indians bullpen. After getting off to a maddeningly slow start, Damon has picked it up a bit as of late, hitting .345 (10-for-29) with two homers and seven RBI over his last nine games. It was his only hit in three trips on the night, and he now sits 247 shy of the hallowed 3000.

Johnny Damon went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk against the Royals on Wednesday.
It's Damon's first multihit game since May 6 and just his second for the Indians. He's really struggled to make hard contact after missing spring training and an abbreviated stint in the minors.

The Indians will stick with Johnny Damon amidst his struggles.
Damon has a clause in his contract which would guarantee he be released if he isn't getting enough playing time for his liking. Manager Manny Acta was asked how much leeway Damon had over the weekend. "We don't have a timetable or anything," Acta said. "Damon is here to play for us up until he doesn't want to be here. We signed Damon to be part of the Cleveland Indians. Johnny was signed to be part of this ballclub until the end." The 38-year-old veteran is batting just .172 thus far.

Johnny Damon went 1-for-5 in the Indians' 8-3 win over the Red Sox on Thursday.
Damon is hitting .171/.194/.257 through 35 at-bats. It's too early to know the extent to which he will contribute this season. While he is a better player than he has demonstrated thus far, it would be wise to temper expectations of the 38-year-old.
