Chris Marrero (oblique) took 10 dry swings Wednesday.

Marrero is still feeling some discomfort in the area of his strained oblique, but the hope is that he'll be ready for normal swings by early next week. He is likely to open the 2014 season at Triple-A Norfolk.

The injury isn't believed to be serious, but it will still be a few more days before he is able to resume full workouts. He's attempting to earn a spot on the Orioles bench this spring.

Orioles signed 1B Chris Marrero to a minor league contract.

Marrero was the 15th overall pick in the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft and has at times shown signs of promise, but the Nationals got tired of waiting and cut him loose at the end of the season. Marrero, now 25 years old, is a .281/.353/.413 hitter in 275 games at Triple-A.

Nationals sent 1B Chris Marrero outright to Triple-A Syracuse.

Marrero appeared in six games with the Nationals this season, but spent the bulk of the year at the Triple-A level. A former top prospect with the Nats, he's now off the 40-man roster and can become a minor league free agent after the World Series.

The 24-year-old only garnered 16 at-bats during his time with the Nationals, going 2-for-16 with an RBI and four strikeouts. He'll continue to serve as organizational depth in the minor leagues, and should have another chance as a bench bat with the Nats later in the season.

No word yet on any corresponding moves. With Sunday's doubleheader against the Twins, the Nationals have the luxury of using a 26th player on their roster, but initial indications are that Marrero will remain with the team for longer than just one day. The 24-year-old was hitting .306/.355/.502 with 10 homers and 44 RBI in 55 games at Triple-A Syracuse.

Chris Marrero is set to begin rehabbing a hamstring injury with Class A Auburn.

Marrero torn his left hamstring over the winter and made his way to Triple-A Syracuse in June, but he was shut down in July after feeling some discomfort. He'll likely return to the Triple-A level once he's back to full health.
