The move clears a spot for Mark Ellis to be activated from the disabled list. Kozma has only logged three plate appearances so far this season and will now serve as infield depth in the minors.

Adam Rubin on ESPNNewYork.com reports the Cardinals are making Pete Kozma available in trade talks.

Rubin also notes that despite his availability and the Mets' desire to acquire a starting shortstop, the team isn't believed to be interested in the soon-to-be 26-year-old. It's not surprising, as Komza doesn't offer much of an upgrade at the plate over current shortstop Ruben Tejada. The Tigers may have some interest in Kozma to fill in during Jose Iglesias' absence.
