Brandon Guyer went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored as the Rays held on for a 4-3 win over the Royals on Tuesday.

Rays manager Joe Maddon hit Guyer in the third spot in his lineup, and the 28-year-old rewarded him with his best game in almost two weeks. Guyer doubled and scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning, and he scored again in the eight as the Rays added to their lead. The outfielder has been getting steady playing time in recent weeks and is hitting .264/.313/.364 on the year.

Brandon Guyer went 3-for-3 with three doubles, an RBI and two runs scored in Friday's win over the Orioles.

He was also hit by a pitch, reaching base in all four plate appearances. Guyer has swung a hot stick since coming off the disabled list, getting hits in six of eight games while batting .379. He started against a righty in this one but will continue to see most of his starts versus southpaws.

Since being activated from the disabled list, Guyer has five hits and four runs scored in 14 at-bats in four games. The outfielder is hitting .280/.308/.360 overall this year.

Guyer missed about a month because of a fractured left thumb. He could get a good amount of playing time while David DeJesus recovers from a broken left hand and may be worth picking up in AL-only fantasy formats.

Guyer has played in three rehab games at Triple-A Durham and is making progress, but he needs more time. The outfielder fractured his thumb barely over three weeks ago.

Guyer would be used in the designated hitter spot Saturday before playing the outfield Sunday. The outfielder isn't even three weeks removed from a fractured thumb but appears close to rejoining the Rays.

He'll begin his rehab soon and is hoping to rejoin the Rays before the end of the month. Guyer has hit .262/.286/.361 with one homer and six RBI over 65 plate appearances this season for the Rays.

Guyer suffered the injury Sunday when he dove for a ball in the outfield. The Rays aren't sure yet how long he will be out. Alex Colome was recalled from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding 25-man roster move.

It was Guyer's first homer, but he's hitting .302 in 42 at-bats. The Rays will play him primarily against lefties this season, leaving him with little AL-only value early on. He might be able to expand his role if he produces.
