Guyer is out of the lineup Thursday against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The Rays will stock up on left-handed bats to counter starting pitcher Allen Webster, with Guyer drawing out of the lineup as a consequence. He'll be replaced by David DeJesus.

Guyer started three of the last four games in left field, but he will be held out Tuesday. Matt Joyce will man left field for the Rays with Guyer opening on the bench.

Guyer had a productive night going 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run, and three RBI in a losing effort against Boston on Friday.

His at bats have taken a significant hit in August as the Rays look at other options in the outfield. He has just three home runs and 24 RBI to go with a respectable .271 average so he will have to hope this outburst earns him more playing time heading into September.

Guyer's playing time has grown sparser in August, as it appears manager Joe Maddon is content to use him in a timeshare with the likes of Matt Joyce, Ben Zobrist and Sean Rodriguez, based on factors such as matchups and lineup composition. Wednesday's power surge aside, Guyer's .273 batting average has been relatively low in impact, as his middling .369 slugging percentage would support.

Although Guyer has maintained a formidable .273 batting average over 165 at-bats, his lack of power might have prompted manager Joe Maddon to look elsewhere for his everyday left fielder. Guyer finds himself on the bench for the third time in four games.

Brandon Guyer went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in Tuesday's win over the Brewers.

Guyer had a run-scoring infield single in the Rays' four-run eighth inning, and he also doubled in the game. The two-hit night was his first multi-hit game in 10 days, as he'd seen his average drop to .265. With the two-hit game, Guyer's line is back up to .272/.333/.361.

Brandon Guyer went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored as the Rays held on for a 4-3 win over the Royals on Tuesday.

Rays manager Joe Maddon hit Guyer in the third spot in his lineup, and the 28-year-old rewarded him with his best game in almost two weeks. Guyer doubled and scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning, and he scored again in the eight as the Rays added to their lead. The outfielder has been getting steady playing time in recent weeks and is hitting .264/.313/.364 on the year.

He was also hit by a pitch, reaching base in all four plate appearances. Guyer has swung a hot stick since coming off the disabled list, getting hits in six of eight games while batting .379. He started against a righty in this one but will continue to see most of his starts versus southpaws.
