After hitting a walk-off home run to win Monday's game, Rizzo is out of the lineup Tuesday as he continues to struggle with a lingering back issue. With the Cubs out of contention and looking to preserve the slugger's health, Rizzo will play every other day until further notice.

Rizzo is coming off a lengthy absence and is just 2-for-18 (.111) in his career against Reds starter Johnny Cueto, so manager Rick Renteria decided to hold him out Tuesday. Chris Valaika will get the start at first base for the Cubs.

It was a nice return for Rizzo, who had missed the last 18 games with a back issue. The slugging first baseman collected two hits on the night and now has 31 home runs and 72 RBI for the season. After an All-Star first half, Rizzo has not slowed down since the Mid-Summer Classic, hitting .284 with 11 homers after the break.

After taking part in on-field activities for a second straight day, Rizzo said that he hopes to return to the lineup before the end of this weekend's series in Pittsburgh. Manager Rick Renteria was predictably non-committal, but did say that Rizzo didn't seem to have any residual effects from his first on-field batting practice Monday. While the Cubs have nothing to gain by rushing him back, it sounds like Rizzo will be back in action no later than early next week.
