Asdrubal Cabrera 2B/SS WAS 4 Months

Cabrera (oblique) is not in the lineup Monday against the Phillies, Mark Zuckerman of CSN reports.

Cabrera injured his oblique muscle while swinging Sunday but does not expect to miss more than a game or two. Consider him day-to-day and questionable to play Tuesday. As expected, Danny Espinosa gets the start at second base in Cabrera's place.

Cabrera (oblique) doesn't think he'll miss more than a game or two, the Washington Post reports. "I felt it my last at-bat, but I'm feeling better," Cabrera said. "I've got to see how I feel [Monday], and we'll take it from there."

Danny Espinosa would man second base in his absence. Oblique strains can be tricky, but at this point Cabrera seems to have avoided a serious injury.

Cabrera experienced soreness in his right side during Sunday's 14-6 win over the Giants, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.

Cabrera went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in the contest before he was replaced by Danny Espinosa. His availability for the series with the Phillies that begins Monday remains in question, with an update on his condition unlikely to arrive until hours before game time.

Cabrera is not in the lineup Wednesday versus the Mets.

After starting each of the last five games, Cabrera will hand over second base duties to Danny Espinosa on Wednesday as the Nats take on Mets' lefty Jon Niese. Since coming over from the Indians, Cabrera is 4-for-19 with a triple and an RBI in five contests.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Nationals are among the teams eyeing Asdrubal Cabrera.

The Blue Jays and Giants -- who both have pressing needs at second base -- have also been linked to the impending free agent infielder. Washington, like Toronto and San Francisco, is set at shortstop, so Cabrera would presumably play the keystone there as well. The 28-year-old is batting .246/.305/.386 with nine home runs and 40 RBI in 97 games this season as Cleveland's shortstop.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports the Blue Jays are looking at Asdrubal Cabrera to fill their second base vacancy.

The Jays have a need but don't have much payroll flexibility, making Cabrera and his expiring contract a fit. FOX Sports' Jon Morosi also mentioned the Giants as having interest in Cabrera, presumably to play the keystone as well. The "perception" around baseball, per ESPN's Buster Olney, is that the Indians are prepared to move Cabrera before the deadline.

Buster Olney of ESPN.com writes that the "perception" around the Indians is that they are ready to move both Asdrubal Cabrera and Justin Masterson.

The Indians are just four games out in the AL Wild Card race and 6 1/2 games back in the AL Central, but they could move one or both if the right offer comes along. Cabrera and Masterson are both set to become free agents this offseason.
