Myers has started every game for the Rays since returning from the DL on Aug. 20, so manager Joe Maddon will just be giving him the afternoon off Sunday for maintenance purposes. In those 12 games with the Rays since returning, Myers has produced only six hits in 42 at-bats.

Myers, who has been sidelined since May 31 due to a stress fracture in his right wrist, fared well in his rehab assignment at Triple-A Durham. It's unclear if he'll immediately enter the lineup, but he should assume everyday duty in right field shortly.

Myers is not in the lineup for Tuesday's series opener against Detroit but it sounds like he may be activated as soon as Wednesday. Maddon said Myers will see time both in left field and right field upon his return.

The Rays won't rush Myers back to the big club, but he has gone 4-for-9 with a home run through three rehab games, so he is getting close to returning to Tampa. While the exact day of Myers' expected return is uncertain, he should be back with the Rays sometime next week barring any setbacks over the next few days.

It will be a day before he resumes taking batting practice. Myers has been hitting off a tee for a few days and played catch in the outfield prior to Tuesday's game. He figures to begin a rehab assignment sometime next week and is on track for a mid-August return.
