Dodgers' manager Don Mattingly is "optimistic" Gordon (hip) will return to the lineup Friday for Game 1 of the NLDS, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports.

Gordon was not in the starting lineup of Sunday's regular season finale after hip discomfort forced an early exit from Saturday's contest. He anticipates being ready for the playoffs, however, where the speedy 26-year-old would return to his regular role atop the batting order.

Gordon left Saturday's game with a right hip injury, and later underwent a precautionary MRI. The results of the MRI have yet to be disclosed, but the team doesn't expect the injury to be overly serious. Nonetheless, the Gordon will sit Sunday in favor of Darwin Barney at the keystone, as the Dodgers will take a conservative approach to preserve their regular second baseman for the playoffs.

Gordon underwent an MRI on his right hip Saturday night, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports.

Gordon doesn't appear to be overly concerned about the the ailment, claiming it's something that he's dealt with in the past. The announcement does cloud his playing status for Sunday, however. We'll be sure to update once the Dodgers' official lineup is released, but don't be surprised if the team elects to take a conservative approach with the division title already in hand.

He suffered the injury early in Saturday's game and was replaced by Miguel Rojas at shortstop. Owners will want to keep tabs on his status in advance of Sunday's game, but it would seem practical for the team to hold him out as there won't be anything but pride on the line.

Gordon went 3-for-4 with two runs scored against the Rockies on Friday night.

The Dodgers' second baseman struggled some earlier in the month, but Gordon did hit a nice run of games to bring his average backup. Friday's game brings Gordon to .289 on the year, to go along with 92 runs and 64 stolen bases.

Gordon added another two hits Tuesday night to extend his hitting streak to ten games. He will sit Wednesday, however, with the left-handed Jorge De La Rosa on the bump for the Rockies. Darwin Barney will start at second base and lead off for the Dodgers in his place.

Gordon went 2-for-6 with two runs, an RBI and his 62nd stolen base in a win over the Rockies on Monday.

Gordon increases hit hitting streak to nine games and has multiple hits in four straight. The 26-year-old's 62 stolen bags are tops in the majors.

That lifts Gordon's hit streak to a modest eight games, during which he's batted .350. The .329 OBP is modest for a leadoff guy, but the steals have Gordon locked in as a top-five fantasy second baseman.

Yasiel Puig will get another opportunity atop the order with Gordon set to sit for a second straight game and for the fourth time in 11 games. With his team in the driver's seat for a postseason birth, manager Don Mattingly can afford to rest the 26-year-old a bit more frequently over the remainder of the regular season.
