Tyler Chatwood SP COL 11 Days

Tyler Chatwood needs Tommy John elbow surgery.

Chatwood was placed on the disabled list at the end of April with a right elbow strain and didn't make very much progress in his attempt at rehabbing the injury. The 24-year-old right-hander is done for the remainder of the 2014 season and will miss a large majority of 2015. He had a promising 3.15 ERA in 20 starts for Colorado last year.

Tyler Chatwood (elbow) was set to throw live batting practice on Wednesday but was shut down after throwing just a few pitches.

It's obviously not a good sign for the right-hander, who hasn't pitched since April 29. It's also not the first time he's had a setback during his recovery -- he previously felt some forearm tightness during a batting practice session in late June. There's no indication of what Wednesday's development means for Chatwood's timetable, but it's fair to say he remains out indefinitely.

Tyler Chatwood (elbow) felt tightness in his right forearm following a live batting practice session Tuesday.

Well, that's not a good sign. Chatwood has been on the shelf since late April with a flexor strain and inflammation in his right elbow, and it doesn't sound like he's fully healed yet. It's not clear if he'll undergo further testing, but at the very least the Rockies will slow Chatwood down a bit.

Tyler Chatwood (elbow) will throw live batting practice on Tuesday.

Chatwood has been on the shelf since late April with a flexor strain and inflammation in his right elbow. The Rockies haven't set a timetable for his return, but the right-hander is obviously making some nice progress.

Tyler Chatwood (elbow) played catch from 75 feet for the fourth straight day Tuesday.

He'll take a couple days off before resuming throwing. It's not clear at this point when Chatwood will be ready for mound work, as the Rockies are taking things slowly with the righty as he comes back from a strained flexor tendon. He's not eligible to return until late June.

Rockies transferred RHP Tyler Chatwood from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot for Nick Masset on the 40-man roster. Chatwood is dealing with a flexor strain and inflammation in his right elbow and will not be eligible to return until the end of June.

Tyler Chatwood has been diagnosed with a flexor strain and inflammation in his right elbow.

The right-hander had already been placed on the disabled list, but now we have a clearer picture as to what exactly he's dealing with. Obviously it's not the best diagnosis, but it also could have been much worse. Chatwood figures to be shut down for a while before trying to ramp up his throwing again. There's no timetable for his return.

Tyler Chatwood underwent an MRI Wednesday on his strained right elbow.

Chatwood was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday as well, but the club has some concerns about the elbow. "I don't know," Chatwood said when asked about the severity of the injury. "We'll have to wait for the results of the MRI." That's ominous, especially since Chatwood dealt with elbow issues last season. The results of the MRI are expected to be known soon.

Rockies placed RHP Tyler Chatwood on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow strain.

Chatwood sustained the injury in the sixth inning of Tuesday's game. He was initially called day-to-day, so hopefully he'll be able to return after 15 days. Chad Bettis was recalled by the Rockies.

Tyler Chatwood left Tuesday's start against the Diamondbacks in the sixth inning due to right elbow tightness.

The Rockies are calling him day-to-day for now, but more should be known after he's re-evaluated. It's certainly worth noting that Chatwood's 2013 campaign ended prematurely due to elbow inflammation before he underwent offseason surgery to have bone chips removed.
