Eric Sogard 2B/SS OAK 1 Month
Sogard agreed to a one-year, $1.075 million contract with the A's on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.
The 28-year-old's salary will more than double (from $510,000) in his first year of arbitration, though $1.075 million is a relatively modest number for a player who has appeared in 247 games at the major league level over the past two seasons. Sogard can only blame himself for his low market value, as he posted a dismal .223/.298/.268 batting line and one home run in 329 plate appearances last season.

Sogard was added to the lineup for Saturday's game against the Rangers, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports.
Sogard was not in the original lineup for the A's, but the Rangers scratched lefty Derek Holland (head) and are now starting righty Scott Baker, so A's manager Bob Melvin switched from a righty-heavy lineup to a lefty-heavy one. Sogard will bat ninth and take Nick Punto's spot at second base.

Sogard is out of the lineup Thursday against the White Sox, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
With another lefty (Chris Sale) on the hill for the opposition, Sogard will turn second base back over to Alberto Callaspo for the finale against Chicago. Sogard is batting .276/.368/.357 since the All-Star break, after batting just .186/.256/.218 in the first half.

Sogard went 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI against the Twins on Friday.
Although he isn't known for his bat, Sogard (.215/.294/.272) had a solid night at the plate. Sogard may be picking up regular at-bats, but don't get too excited about his bat moving forward.

Eric Sogard will start at second base in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Tigers on Friday.
He'll get the nod at second base over Alberto Callaspo. Sogard batted just .266 with two homers and a .686 OPS this season, but he was more productive against right-handers.

Eric Sogard has gone 13-for-34 (.382) during his current nine-game hitting streak.
Sogard's average is up to .273 and ten of his past 20 hits have gone for extra bases, including eight doubles and two homers. He has replaced the injured John Jason in the No. 2 spot in the lineup. "Over the (All-Star) break, I just kind of wanted to hit that reset button and kind of go back to finding that spring-training swing that I had," he said. "And from the first at-bat, I've felt really comfortable, seeing the ball really well and just having fun."

Eric Sogard is hitting in the No. 2 spot in the Athletics' lineup Monday.
Sogard hadn't previously batted higher than seventh, but the A's are rewarding him with a hot month that's seen him bat .296/.309/.537 with two homers and 10 RBI. He's worth using in deeper leagues while he's hitting towards the top of the order.

Eric Sogard went 2-for-4 with a home run Sunday against the Angels.
The home run was a two-run shot off Jerome Williams in the third inning. Despite the Athletics calling up Grant Green prior to the All-Star break, Sogard continues to receive the majority of starts at second base. He's batting .264/.333/.370 over 241 plate appearances.

Eric Sogard was removed for a pinch-hitter after going 0-for-2 against the Indians on Monday.
Sogard's average is down to .227, and with just five walks, three extra-base hits and two RBI in 75 at-bats, he's not doing much to supplement it. The A's have to be weighing whether it's time to go to Jemile Weeks at second base, though Weeks is in a bit of a slump himself after a nice April in the PCL.

Eric Sogard went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double and a steal as the Athletics edged the Astros 4-3 on Tuesday.
Sogard was hitting .235 with one extra-base hit before breaking out tonight. He figures to fade into a utility role eventually, with either Jemile Weeks or Hiroyuki Nakajima getting a look as a regular. In the meantime, he should hit for a solid average and post a nice OBP, but he won't do a whole lot for fantasy leaguers.
