Pedro Ciriaco (back) could return to game action Sunday.

Ciriaco has been sidelined the last week due to back spasms. He'll likely need to start out in minor league camp before returning to Grapefruit League games.

Pedro Ciriaco had a nice night in Friday's loss to the Orioles, going 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and an RBI.

His RBI double off Miguel Gonzalez in the third inning gave the Red Sox an early 1-0 lead, but it wouldn't last. He's done a very nice job in his first extended major league action, hitting .297/.316/.401 with two homers, 19 RBI and 15 stolen bases. He's likely done more than enough to play his way onto the Sox' 2013 roster.

Pedro Ciriaco had a go-ahead RBI double in the ninth inning to lead the Red Sox to a 3-2 win over the Blue Jays on Saturday.

Ciriaco finished the day 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base. The 26-year-old is hitting just .171 (11-for-64) over his last 18 games, so regression has hit him pretty hard, but he could still provide some speed to fantasy owners in a pinch. The Red Sox have won back-to-back games for the first time since August 26-27.

Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said Thursday that Pedro Ciriaco will play a lot at second base until Dustin Pedroia (thumb) returns from the disabled list.

Ciriaco was called up from the minors last Friday and went 7-for-13 (.538) with two doubles, four RBI and two stolen bases against the Yankees. Nick Punto may also get the occasional start, but he's likely to remain in his familiar utility role. Ciriaco is worth a look in AL-only leagues.

Pedro Ciriaco is batting second in Boston's Sunday Night lineup against the Yankees.

Ciriaco is coming off a night to remember. In his Red Sox debut Saturday, he went 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI, leading Boston to a 9-5 victory over the Yankees. Ciriaco was hitting .301 with 14 steals at Triple-A Pawtucket and could be worth a look as a middle infielder in deeper mixed leagues if he receives everyday at-bats while Dustin Pedroia is out.
