Welington Castillo C CHC 10 Days

Castillo is now projected to serve in a backup role for the Cubs following the acquisition of Miguel Montero on Tuesday.

Rumors have swirled that suggest Castillo could be on the move in a trade, as the Cubs have been linked to free agent David Ross after signing Jon Lester to a six-year deal late Tuesday night. Castillo's OPS fell by 61 points in 2014, but he swatted a career-best 13 home runs in 380 at-bats. Turning 28 in April, Castillo may be coveted as a viable starter by other clubs despite his defensive limitations.

Castillo has a hit in three straight games, but more or less he's been the same boom-or-bust hitter all year long. Although the 13 home runs are nice, he has also struck out 98 times in 373 at-bats and carries a .241/.300/.397 season slash line.

He was replaced by Rafael Lopez and should be considered day-to-day. Castillo hasn't improved much on his 2013 season. He has three more home runs (11) than he did last year in nine more games, but his .238 average is significantly worse than his BABIP inflated .274 average from a season ago.
