Jared Burton nailed down the save in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Reds.

Interesting. Lefty Glen Perkins was called on in Minnesota's first two save opportunities without Matt Capps, but with two righties scheduled to lead off the ninth for the Reds, manager Ron Gardenhire went with Burton today. Burton walked two and recorded zero strikeouts. With Capps' shoulder likely to send him to the disabled list, the Twins might go with some approximation of a committee, but Perkins is the fill-in to own, with Burton being worth a look if you're absolutely desperate for saves.

Twins signed RHP Jared Burton to a minor league contract.

A solid, no-risk move from Minnesota. Burton appeared in only six games for the Reds this season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder, but he holds a 3.41 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 164 games at the major league level. If he shows he's healthy, he has a good shot to earn a bullpen spot in spring training.

Jared Burton has elected free agency.

Burton was outrighted off the Reds' 40-man roster on Monday. The 30-year-old right-hander has made just 10 appearances in the majors over the past two seasons and will likely have to accept a minor league deal this winter.

Reds sent RHP Jared Burton outright to Triple-A Louisville.

The move clears him from the 40-man roster. Burton, 30, has made just 10 appearances in the majors over the past two seasons due to a multitude of injuries, including shoulder surgery this past April.

Reds recalled RHP Jared Burton from Triple-A Louisville.

Burton made three appearances for the Reds in April before undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder. The 30-year-old right-hander had a 4.15 ERA and 11/5 K/BB ratio over 13 innings with Triple-A Louisville. Look for him in a middle relief role.

Reds activated RHP Jared Burton from the 60-day disabled list, optioned him to Triple-A Louisville.

Burton, who underwent surgery on his right shoulder back on April 23, posted a 6.92 ERA but struck out over a batter per inning in 10 rehab appearances. He'll likely be called up in September.

Jared Burton (shoulder) has rejoined the Reds after completing a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville, but he has not be activated from the disabled list.

"He's been throwing better," manager Dusty Baker said. "But he's on one day and a little off the next." Burton, who has been out since undergoing surgery on his right shoulder back on April 23, posted a 6.92 ERA but struck out over a batter per inning in 10 rehab appearances. It sounds like the Reds might have him throw a few bullpen sessions before likely activating him next month when the rosters expand.
