Mitch Moreland blasted a two-run homer off Max Scherzer on Saturday, propelling the Rangers to a 7-1 victory over the Tigers.

Moreland's towering blast, his only hit in four trips on the night, highlighted a three-run uprising in the fourth inning. With 13 homers through his first 79 games, Moreland is well on his way to eclipsing his career-best in the category of 16 set in 2011.

Mitch Moreland is batting an anemic .164/.238/.200 over 63 plate appearances since he was activated from the disabled list on June 21.

The first baseman posted a great .288/.338/.561 batting line with 12 homers and 29 RBI prior to hitting the DL with a right hamstring strain in early June. In 17 games since his activation, Moreland has hit two doubles and no homers and collected zero multi-hit games. He should be yanked from all mixed leagues until signs of progression are seen.

Mitch Moreland will wait 5-6 days before testing his right hamstring.

Moreland was placed on the disabled list Thursday with a right hamstring strain. Rangers manager Ron Washington is hopeful that he'll be back as soon as he's eligible, but it all depends on how he responds to increased activity. Chris McGuiness is expected to get the majority of starts at first base during his absence while Jeff Baker and Lance Berkman could see at-bats there against southpaws.

Moreland is hoping to rejoin the Rangers for their weekend series in Toronto, but it will just depend on what the MRI says. The first baseman left Wednesday's game in the seventh inning after tweaking his hamstring while legging out a double.
