Mitch Moreland said Thursday that his oblique is "fine."

Moreland has been held out of action since leaving a Cactus League game Monday with tightness in his left oblique muscle, but it's not a strain and he should be fine for the start of the 2014 regular season. He's expected to serve as the Rangers' primary DH this year.

Mitch Moreland (oblique) worked out Tuesday and is not scheduled for an MRI.

The Rangers are keeping a close eye on Moreland's left oblique issue, but it doesn't appear it will be a long-term issue unless it gets worse. At the very least, though, the club figures to hold him out of action for a handful of days.

Mitch Moreland (oblique) is out of the Rangers' Cactus League lineup Tuesday.

Moreland was pulled from Monday night's Cactus League game against the Royals due to tightness in his left oblique muscle. He figures to be held out of action for a few days at the very least.

Mitch Moreland is day-to-day with a tight left oblique.

Moreland had to make an early exit from Monday's Cactus League game but should be back in action by the end of this week. He is expected to serve as the Rangers' primary DH this season after slugging 23 home runs in 2013.

Rangers and 1B Mitch Moreland avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.65 million contract.

They wound up settling just above the midpoint of figures exchanged last month. Moreland, who was arbitration-eligible for the first time, batted .232/.299/.437 with 23 home runs in 2013. He'll be the club's primary designated hitter this season.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels confirmed Saturday that Mitch Moreland will serve as the team's primary designated hitter in 2014.

Daniels also indicated that he'll use a rotation to fill the position, while Moreland fills in at first base and in the outfield. It appears as though he's in line for regular playing time and at least 500 at-bats, which makes him a nice target in the later rounds of mixed league drafts due to his power potential.

Mitch Moreland requested $3.25 million and was offered $2.025 million from the Rangers when arbitration figures were exchanged on Friday.

The 28-year-old will likely wind up making around $2.5 million to serve in a utility role for the Rangers in 2014. He continues to have nice power upside, but his fantasy value takes a hit if he isn't in the Rangers lineup on a nightly basis.

Mitch Moreland is working hard this winter to prepare himself for the utility role that he will assume with the Rangers in 2014.

With the acquisitions of Prince Fielder and Shin-Soo Choo this winter, Moreland is now a man without a position. He'll serve as the primary backup at first base, spend some time in the corner outfield positions and also see plenty of work in the DH spot against right-handed pitching. Unless he's traded before the season to a team that plans on giving him 500 or more at-bats, his mixed league fantasy value will be limited.

Jayson Stark of ESPN writes that Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland is a possible fit with the Rays.

It makes sense, as Moreland doesn't have a clear role with the Rangers after the Prince Fielder trade. The Rays remain interested in re-signing James Loney to play first base and have also reportedly shown interest in a trade for the Mets' Ike Davis.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Rangers are currently leaning toward keeping Mitch Moreland.

Moreland's name has surfaced in trade rumors since last week's acquisition of Prince Fielder, but Rosenthal hears that the Rangers could find playing time for him between the DH spot, right field and first base against right-handed pitching. Of course, things could change depending on what else the Rangers do this winter, so he could find himself on the trade block eventually.
