Arencibia retired from professional baseball Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The 31-year-old backstop failed to crack a major league roster in 2016, so rather than live off another minor league assignment, he opted to simply step away from the game. Arencibia appeared in the big leagues in parts of six seasons, compiling a .212/.258/.412 with 80 home runs across 1,573 at-bats.

Arencibia is hitting .396 with four homers for Triple-A Durham in the 11 games since the All-Star break, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran backstop is slashing .250/.284/.425 overall with the Bulls in 212 at-bats, but recently enjoyed a three-game stretch of multi-hit efforts. Arencibia is only a career .212 hitter at the major league level, but did excel in a 24-game stint with the Rays last season, producing a .310/.315/.606 line over 71 at-bats that included six homers and 17 RBI. Considering Tampa's season-long quest for offense, there's always a possibility the 30-year-old could find himself with the big league club at some point before the 2016 campaign concludes.

Arencibia signed a minor league contract with the Rays on Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran catcher was granted his release by the Phillies on Monday, and with the Rays' deficiencies at catcher at the major league level, Tampa Bay becomes an interesting landing spot for Arencibia. However, it's important to note that Arencibia will begin this stint with the Rays organization at Triple-A Durham and he is not on the 40-man roster, so it could be a while before he's recalled. Carlos Corporan was released in a corresponding move Friday

Arencibia was granted his release by the Phillies on Monday, Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran failed to crack the Opening Day roster out of camp and has struggled at Triple-A, hitting a paltry .167 with 11 strikeouts in 48 at-bats. In need of a change of scenery, Arencibia will likely look to catch on with another organization on a minor league deal.

Arencibia was assigned to minor league camp Friday, Paul Hagen of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Arencibia hit .269 (7-for-26) with two home runs this spring. He is going to be the first catcher up from the minors if anything happens to Cameron Rupp or Carlos Ruiz this season.

Arencibia hit a solo home run and singled in the Phillies spring training loss to the Blue Jays on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Arencibia is in camp with the Phillies as a non-roster invitee. He is likely ticketed for Triple-A to start the year, but would be the first choice to replace Cameron Rupp or Carlos Ruiz if either got hurt. Arencibia does have an out clause on his minor league contract, but not until later in the season.

Arencibia signed a minor league contract with the Phillies on Monday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Arencibia was released by the Rays earlier in the offseason, but he performed well when given the opportunity in Tampa, hitting .310 with six homers in 24 games at the big league level last season. He may not get to start the season in the majors, but he should get the opportunity in spring training to earn a spot.

Arencibia was released by the Rays on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
This move was effectively made last week when the Rays designated Arencibia for assignment ahead of the Rule 5 roster deadline. Arencibia once again put his power on display at the major league level last season, smacking six homers in 24 games, but he struggled at Triple-A Durham throughout most of the year. The 29-year-old had a .227/.259/.443 line with Durham, numbers well below his career marks at that level (.258/.304/.508). Still, he figures to get a look in spring training with another club.

The Rays have chosen to part ways with Arencibia, the Tampa Bay Times' Mar Topkin reports.
EDGE Analysis
The team elected to hold onto Rene Rivera and part ways with Arencibia as they shuffle their roster with the approach of the Rule 5 draft. He may be given a minor league with another team, but is unlikely to ever be an everyday catcher in the big leagues anytime soon.

Arencibia (hand) is in the lineup Wednesday against the Red Sox, Bill Chastain of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Arencibia was expected to be limited over the next couple days by a hand strain, but it will surprisingly not keep him out of the lineup Wednesday. He will catch and bat seventh for the Rays against Red Sox starter Rick Porcello.
