Carter's two-run shot in the eighth inning off Jeff Samardzija was his only hit of the game in four at-bats. The 27-year-old DH appears to have Samardzija's number, hitting .417 with two doubles and two home runs against him lifetime.

He'll give way to Dexter Fowler at DH on Sunday, but his game-changing power will continue to afford him an everyday role with the Astros.

Carter also struck out four times Tuesday, but his home run off Yankees' closer David Robertson broke a tie game in the ninth inning. His 30 home runs are a new career high for a season after he hit 29 homers for the Astros in 2013.
