Chris Carter 1B/LF.. HOU 5 Days

Chris Carter went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in a loss to the Royals on Tuesday.

That makes 21 strikeouts in 44 at-bats for the right-handed hitting 1B/DH this season. Carter is also homerless on the year, batting .136/.240/.227 with one RBI. He's too talented to take out of the weak Astros lineup altogether, but manager Bo Porter may soon give Carter some days off or move him down in the lineup while he tries to figure it out.

Chris Carter went hitless Thursday to finish the series against the Yankees 1-for-10 with four strikeouts and one walk.

The Astros won't have any sort of quick hook with Carter, but his play slipped in the second half of last year and he was lousy this spring, hitting .214/.233/.375 with 16 strikeouts in 56 at-bats. It remains to be seen if he should really be in the team's plans going forward.

Chris Carter went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts against the Phillies on Thursday and is hitting .214 with just one homer in 42 at-bats this spring.

Carter figured to be the Astros' cleanup hitter, but he's mostly been batting fifth behind Marc Krauss, potentially making him an even weaker bet in runs scored and RBI. Last year, he hit 29 homers, but still finished with just 64 runs scored and 82 RBI in 506 at-bats. He stands to be a 1 1/2-category player and one of the AL's biggest liabilities when it comes to batting average.

Chris Carter hit a three-run homer Saturday against the Yankees.

Of Carter's five hits in 20 at-bats this spring, four have gone for extra bases. The Astros would prefer he's not quite so all or nothing this year -- he struck out 212 times last season -- but he is locked into their lineup as the everyday DH and cleanup hitter.

Chris Carter went 1-for-4 and plated the Astros lone run in Saturday's loss to the Yankees.

Carter drove home Jose Altuve with an RBI groundout in the fourth inning, and that wound up being the extent of the Astros offense against Andy Pettitte in this one. While his .225 average is troublesome, Carter has been a strong run producer in the middle of the Astros lineup with 29 homers and 82 RBI.

Chris Carter homered for the second straight game in Sunday's loss to the Indians.

His solo shot in the second inning got the scoring going, but the Astros were outscored 9-1 the rest of the way. After going 14 games without a longball, Carter has now gone deep in two straight and is one dinger shy from reaching 30 for the season.

Chris Carter went 3-for-4 with a home run against the Indians on Saturday.

The homer was his first since September 3. Not much good has come out of Houston this year, but Carter has now quietly hit 28 home runs this season for the Astros. He's also got 78 RBI for the year.

Chris Carter had a two-run homer in the fifth, an RBI single in the seventh and a solo homers in the ninth as the Astros beat the White Sox 10-8 on Monday.

Matt Dominguez and Carter went back-to-back in the ninth to put Houston on top. Carter is up to 25 homers on the year, which would be better if it wasn't nearly one-third of his hit total. He's batting .181 in 116 at-bats since the All-Star break and .215 overall.

Chris Carter knocked in five with a three-run homer, a single and a sac fly as the Astros topped the Angels 8-2 on Friday.

The homer came off Joe Blanton, but it'll count in the stats anyway. It was Carter's fourth in seven games and 23rd on the year. Even after the two-hit day, Carter is still batting just .159 since the All-Star break. With 160 strikeouts in 111 games, he seems on his way to reaching 200 on the season.
