Braves and OF Jason Heyward avoided arbitration by agreeing to a two-year contract.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the deal is worth $13.3 million. The Braves have been known as a "file-and-trial" team, meaning that they don't negotiate once arbitration figures are exchanged, but they made an exception for Heyward in signing him to a multi-year deal. There was only a $200,000 difference between Heyward and the Braves when arbitration figures were exchanged last month, so it was in the interest of both sides to find some sort of compromise. The Braves are still set to go to hearings with Freddie Freeman and Craig Kimbrel.

Jason Heyward is scheduled to have his arbitration hearing against the Braves on February 11.

Heyward requested $5.5 million and was offered $5.2 million from the Braves when arbitration figures were exchanged last month. It's a very small difference in terms of baseball salary, but the Braves are known as a file-and-trial team. The three-person panel of arbitrators will decide on one salary or the other for 2014.

Jason Heyward requested $5.5 million and was offered $5.2 million from the Braves when arbitration figures were exchanged on Friday.

With the numbers from each side so close together, neither side should be disappointed with where the final number ends up. Though he's coming off a disappointing and injury-plagued 2013 season, the 24-year-old outfielder still possesses superstar potential and is a nice bounce-back candidate in 2014.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Tuesday that he plans to bat Jason Heyward leadoff in 2014.

It's not a big surprise, as the Braves' lineup was a lot better with Heyward at the top in 2013. The extra plate appearances will be nice for fantasy owners, but his RBI opportunities will obviously be impacted.

According to the Marietta Daily Journal, the Braves will move into a new stadium in Cobb County, Georgia prior to the beginning of the 2017 regular season.

The report has now been confirmed by Braves officials. Cobb County is a northwest suburb of Atlanta, about 20 miles from the current site of Turner Field. The Braves moved into Turner Field in 1997, after it was built to serve as Olympic Stadium for the 1996 summer games. The team's 20-year lease at the park conveniently ends in 2016.

Jason Heyward delivered a clutch two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning on Friday, helping to lead the Braves to a 4-3 victory in Game 2 of the NLDS.

In a battle of wits with Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez, Don Mattingly opted to walk Reed Johnson intentionally to load the bases for Heyward, thinking he'd be the easier out against southpaw Paco Rodriguez, and Heyward made him pay. With the victory, the Braves salvage one game at home and will head to Los Angeles on Sunday with the series knotted up at one game apiece.

Jason Heyward went 5-for-5 with a homer and three doubles against the Phillies on Thursday.

It looks like he's found his timing, all at one. Heyward had been 2-for-15 with no extra-base hits or RBI since returning from a fractured jaw. He's playing center field right now, which makes it clear the Braves have given up on B.J. Upton contributing in the postseason.
